After the police witness protection plan has failed, Colonel Payak, Jimmy's leader, was seriously injured with no chance get back on service. Jimmy quitted his police job. The "Guardian" team has been formed up by Jimmy for specialized bodyguard service instead.

Nick decides to become Hunter's legal guardian after father Dr. Thomas Reed's death and enjoys bonding with the bright, shy boy over baseball, but the doc's suicide allows the grandfather to reclaim custody. Burton is nominated for federal judge and appoints ex-senator Nathan Caldwell managing partner.

Lolita?Nick is taken off of the Hunter Reed case and assigned a case about a fifteen-year-old girl, April Santos, who claims to have been raped by her stepfather, a cop. Nick arranges for her maternal aunt to have guardianship, but Nick soon finds out that all is not what it appears to be and he must go to CLS and admit that he may have placed April in an even more dangerous environment than her home.

A lawyer must perform community service or risk being disbarred for using drugs.
