My brother in Christ I'm not paying 1000 euros for a P53 with the botom tier FHD panel and low end Quadro. P72 for over 2000 euros? Are you actually insane?
It's sad because I'll gladly buy one, just not when there are new (!) laptops with Ryzen & RTX 30XX / 40XX for almost the same price. I've even seen T16 AMD being sold for less than 1000 euros.
Tank like build quality can't save aging components, unfortunately...
I know everyone recommends the T480 - they’ve got a solid record and great modularity, but they’re also all over 7 years old now.
Batteries are going to be worn, replacement batteries seem to already be scarce (Edit: apparently aftermarket batteries are fine and readily available), and I guess the ports and hinges won’t last long term either, so buying one today seems less of a value proposition than it was in 2018-2022.
Also, while the processor is far from totally obsolete, it’s pretty old!
Is my thinking wrong on this? Are there better alternatives?
Hi all!
I am looking to buy a laptop for further university studies, but my budget is limited. I'd be very grateful for the advice of the Thinkpad community :)
I currently have an X1 Carbon Gen 3 with 8GB and it is sluggish to use, hence the need for the upgrade.
I have narrowed it down to two specific choices for used Thinkpads, both used, and both within my limited budget:
OPTION 1 USED
-
$400USD = Lenovo ThinkPad T14S Gen 1
-
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 4650U 2.1GHz
-
RAM: 16GB
-
SSD: 256GB
-
SCREEN: 14" FHD, no details on screen
-
OPTION 2 USED
-
$375USD = Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 6
-
CPU: Intel i7-8550U
-
RAM: 16GB
-
SSD: 512GB
-
SCREEN: 14" FHD (Touch Screen)
-
Other: Has IR camera, no details on screen
-
Primarily looking for a better laptop than my current X1Cg3, ideally something quieter, that can run windows 11, modern fast, and last longer. Needed for basic college work, browsing, watching videos, and a bit of programming... I heard the AMD T14S Gen1 is good value but find a lot of posts on people saying it gets very hot and noisy - not sure what to think ...
Grateful if you could share notes on which one you would recommend and why?
