What is a hydraulic storage bed?
Hydraulic storage beds or also known as gaslift storage beds are bed frames with storage capabilities by incorporating a lifting mechanism powered by hydraulics to access the storage compartment underneath the mattress base.
Benefits of hydraulic storage beds:
- Increased storage space: Ideal for small living spaces or bedrooms with limited storage options.
- Easy to use: The hydraulic mechanism makes lifting the mattress convenient, especially for those with physical limitations.
- Clean aesthetics: The storage space is hidden beneath the bed, maintaining a clutter-free look in the bedroom.
- Durability: Hydraulic beds are generally built to withstand regular use and can support a significant amount of weight.
Here are some additional points to consider:
- Material: Hydraulic storage beds are often constructed from sturdy materials like wood or metal to ensure stability and support the lifting mechanism.
- Mattress compatibility: Most hydraulic beds are designed to work with various mattress types. However, it's always recommended to check the manufacturer's specifications for compatibility.
Castlery offers a storage bed with hydraulic mechanism that is also low-profile and perfect for organizing clutter and adding space to a bedroom

Are storage beds good for feng shui?
While storage beds can be integrated into a good feng shui bedroom, they require careful consideration:
Potential drawbacks of storage beds in feng shui:
- Clutter: The core principle of feng shui emphasizes energy flow, and clutter acts as a barrier. Using the under-bed space for excessive storage can disrupt this flow.
Here's how to mitigate these drawbacks:
- Store only essential items: Limit what you keep under the bed. Focus on soft items like seasonal clothes, extra bedding, or empty suitcases. Avoid storing electronics, sharp objects, or anything that might disrupt the feeling of peace and relaxation.
- Choose the right storage: Opt for breathable containers or drawers to prevent stagnant energy.
- Prioritize mattress lift: If possible, choose a bed where the mattress lifts up for easy access to storage underneath such as gaslift mechanism, minimizing the visual clutter.
Storage beds can also be beneficial for feng shui in certain situations:
- Space optimization: In small living spaces, storage beds can be a practical solution to maximize storage without sacrificing floor space.
- Clean and organized: As long as the storage area is kept clutter-free and only essential items are kept under the bed, it can contribute to a clean and organized bedroom, promoting positive energy flow.

Just got a Malm hydraulic lift-up storage bed, queen. I want to raise it to at least double the height. The easiest solution is to get another and stack them (attached).
That's at least a thousand dollars. I'm thinking if I'm spending 1K, there's gotta be a taller turnkey solution out there. But doesn't look like it.
Anyone done this? What are other solutions? I only like the hydraulic because I won't be able to open the drawers with furniture next to it.
Edit to add - yes, stacking the beds on top of each other. There's some DIY work to this with designing and creating a part to securely attach the beds together. Have someone who can do this.
