r/UPS on Reddit: How to pay duties online ?
September 5, 2025 -

Hello, first of all I'd like to say I very rarely use UPS and the only times I did, I had to pay the taxes and duties at the checkout of the website I was buying from, so I am really not acquainted with UPS. I've recently bought something from the USA (I live in the European union) and I expected to pay taxes, so today I did notice on the website that they mentioned I had to pay taxes/duties, but I can't find any way to pay for them online, even though they talk about a "Pay now" option. Is it normal ? I don't want my package to be sent back just cause I couldn't pay online. I hope this isn't a stupid question. Thank you in advance for your help.

r/UPS on Reddit: UPS import charges due in Canada, what to do?
January 4, 2024 -

I shipped an item to a friend in Canada, and now ups is telling me import charges are due. When I purchased the label, there was zero information or warning about a $250 charge to duties (I paid $150 to ship it). Does anyone have relevant information to this issue?

I let the recipient know because I think there is something they can do at the CBSA office, but today I checked the tracking and it went from "import taxes are due" to now says "on the way cleared customs", so I'm not sure if they did something on their end?

OMG UPS.

In Canada, I have a package coming in with the usual customs BS attached. But I was actually happy to see UPS has finally included a Pay online link to pre-pay the customs charges.

So I go to the pay link, but you MUST be logged in to pay. first WTF. whatever, try to log in using google, just fails and brings me back to the login page. I have to go through the reset password process and reset my password on my google email, after which it will finally allow me to log in using google auth.. Like, what's the point of a 3rd party auth if it wont work anyway..

Finally get logged in and try to pay. every payment attempt just errors out and pops me back to the payment page. Second WTF..

okay, whatever, cant pay online. I'll just pay at the door the next day.

UPS driver shows up today with my package and a COD, but their handheld system is down and they cant process payments. Cant give them a CC, cant give them Cash.. Like why bother even knocking on my door to show me my package that I cant have because UPS cant seem to accept a payment. Third WTF.

That's followed up with a 36 minute phone call to customer support, where they tell me how to get to their website to pay.. (which still doesn't work).. oh. login as guest.. (sorry, not an option, your site requires a login), before they finally will take my CC and process a payment.

currently waiting to see if the driver will show back up today, or if i wait will Tuesday now to receive my package.

As a matter of principal, I did ask them to waive the $11 brokerage fee, which no one seems able to do. Yes i could self clear, but after all this, i dont really want to drive up to the airport to save ten bucks.

totally disappointed (but not surprised) at the level of service and general idiocy from UPS. Would love there to be alternatives, but alas they hold our packages hostage.

So here i am complaining to reddit cause, well, there is no one else to complain to. Not that it will make any difference, but makes me feel better to type out my rage....

r/UPS on Reddit: How the hell do I actually pay UPS for an invoice?
July 11, 2020 -

UPS sent me a bill for brokerage charges after dropping off a package.

Their website is a total fucking mess and of no help whatsoever. It made me create some kind of corporate billing account (which I don't need), save credit card information, but then there's no way to add an invoice to it. I tried searching for invoices, but nothing comes up. It only seems to track things that I have shipped out or something.

I tried their tracking website to look up the package, but there is no payment option after I find the package.

My package requires duties, Can I pay the duty when I pick it up as UPS is actingh as broker. *****************2.
June 3, 2024 - Unclear payment timing and brokerage fees often confuse import duty payments. When UPS acts as a customs broker, import duties can typically be paid upon package pickup. UPS will notify the recipient of any duties owed and may collect payment at delivery or pickup.
