r/webflow on Reddit: Wordpress vs Webflow from actual users of both - how are you liking Webflow?
September 15, 2023 -

Can I hear from actual wordpress users that have jumped ship and started to use webflow? What do you like most about it? Was it easy to switch and build? Has it streamlined any processes in your workflow? Is the pain of plugin updates worth the switch? Does webflow have plugins or are they more restrictive than wordpress?

Ideally, I'm really just curious to learn why you decided to switch. thanks for sharing!

I am a long time (10 years) Wordpress user and recently was getting fed up with site maintenance and gave webflow a go for a couple of smaller sites. Overall I liked it and seemed to be able to build exactly what I wanted. However during the same period I discovered a site builder for Wordpress called Bricks and it has been somewhat of a revelation to me in that it is (very) much like webflow but allows me to continue using Wordpress. As it’s much more coding oriented I can basically build out an entire Wordpress site with 2-3 plugins (bricks is a theme, then I’ll literally have a security plugin, a backup plugin and an SEO plugin). The reason I don’t think I’ll pick up webflow again is the cost. I personally think it is priced far too high for what you get - especially for people who are comfortable with managing their own VPSs. I’m looking at a 5x price hike to use webflow (I know the hosting is passed onto the client but that’s money that would otherwise be coming directly to me haha)

We're using both. At once. We use Webflow for the front-end, WordPress as the back-end and we have streamlined the process of getting there. The thing is, Webflow is some great process optimalisation for developers who want to spend less time writing code. It's not that a Webflow website is different per sé; a website is only as good as the designer envisioned it and the developer built it. The thing is, however, with Webflow, that the CMS lacks some fundamental features (still): Modularity within pages and collections (like the Gutenberg editor); Extensive roles and permissions; Advanced e-commerce and related integrations; Advanced forms (like configurators, i.e. for e-commerce or CRM's); Treating pages as an entity (a collection) for regular duplication, i.e. for lead magnets); If statements in Collections; Custom breakpoints So we decided to use Webflow as merely the tool we use to speed up our front-end development. Every Webflow section then becomes a Gutenberg block in our process. Somehow, clients love it because they get the best of both worlds. And our enterprise clients (we have two) like that we can hook up the flashy Webflow front-end to any back-end, but they now both use WordPress as their platform of choice. When you add up both feature lists: Roles and permissions (WP) Extensible, propper e-commerce (WP, WooCommerce); Faster turnaround on front-end development (Webflow); Interactions (Webflow); Custom breakpoints (WordPress*); Modularity and if statements for pages and other entities/custom posts/collections (WordPress*); A queue worker (replaces Zapier) (WordPress*); A cleaner code-base, as we want to keep things structured and organised rather than using countless Embed blocks in Webflow (WordPress*); Companies can still get a Webflow-ish website, on a system that they were used to; Versioning (WordPress) The asterisk (*) is used in the list above to indicate that we made our own tooling to enable this or improve it. And no, we do not use Udesly. We barely use plugins; everything is developed in-house. Except Rank Math and WP Rocket, or perhaps WooCommerce and a payment provider's plugin, we have a fairly clean list of plugins. The sites hardly require big maintenance efforts, aside from it mostly being automated. So yeah, we love both.

I've got to give it to WordPress, for its simple interface it's a really great website especially for blogging. But right now, I really want to step up my design game (using the free plan rn) with Webflow. Either way, they'll both have that default domain thing, and I hear there's a steep learning curve on Webflow but I'm willing to take my time on it. Wordpress is really limited, but it's more well-known and it boosts your sites more (from what I've heard), however Webflow has more customization and doesn't need plugins for everything. In your opinion, which is better?

Most of my competitors use WP, but I just found someone ranked 2nd with his handyman business using webflow

My site currently runs in Squarespace and I am tired of the limitations. Budget is not an issue, as I am building the site myself. I am mostly looking towards improving my ranking (haven't done anything in exactly 1 year, still ranking 8th)

I see it's easy to make a good looking website in WebFlow. Is Wordpress really that hard?

And besides the stuff I find online like "Wordpress has more tools" what ACTUALLY does it do better, what do those tools do that I can't do in WebFlow. Is it a tool for analysis or is it like some secret potion

My company is beginning the process of a full website redesign based on a rebranding. I have taken over the project as the previous owner has left the company. We are looking to outsource the website development and are going to start seeking bids in the coming months.

I was hoping to gain input on a topic I'm sure is discusses frequently here. Could you provide input in the considerations I should think of in choosing Webflow or Wordpress? If there are post's already discussing this in detail apologies - feel free to point me to those if you could.

Some background that may help:

  • With the outsourcing of the design, we do not have a team currently that will handle upkeep and with capacity concerns the upkeep with need to be fairly minimal.

  • Major design changes will not be frequent but we hope to use the website to engage in sharing content (mostly blogs and video) on a frequent basis.

  • We currently use HubSpot so integration to this for analytics is a major consideration.

  • Hosting costs or service fees are not a major concern - we have healthy financials.

  • We currently use Wordpress but have no internal knowledge as that person is no longer at the org.

Happy to answer any questions as well.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: adding in that we currently use wordpress.

r/webflow on Reddit: I'm thinking of switching from WordPress to Webflow
May 5, 2022 -

Essentially, I'm looking for an alternative.

I've been using WordPress for several years and whilst it's done it's job, I'm tired of having to learn or decide between new plugins that do the same thing (I'm looking at you page builders). Ongoing maintenance of websites and overall, I feel like WordPress under the bonnet, even in the best circumstances is hella messy.

A lot of my dev friends also hate WordPress.

So I started using Webflow with the free trial and honestly I love it. How simple it is to spend little time with it and get amazing results. No need to worry about plugins or hosting, it's all in one box. Even the process of providing Web design and client services seems easier.

Still not entirely sure though.

Any ex-Wordpress guys or Webflowers in general wanna give me their experiences?

Thanks!

August 19, 2023 -

A client of mine wants to update their website, which is currently built in a custom theme in Wordpress and has a fair amount of Google ads and search term traffic. Absolutely shocking at conversion though as it’s not been designed very well.

What they want is something with a lot more creative freedom/slick customer journey and I think Webflow works for this, plus it’s the only thing I build in currently. However, I keep seeing posts about Wordpress being superior in terms of SEO. I’ve tried to do some research but I can’t work out what’s hyperbole or biased because the article/ view comes from a developer of either platform.

Are there any unbiased sources or even better, metrics, out there? I’m nervous of tanking any rankings.

r/SEO on Reddit: Wordpress vs webflow vs wicks for seo? What are the pros and cons and how much difference does it really make?
September 20, 2022 - WordPress has built-in CMS features that make it really, really great for creating content at a large scale. It's also got a huge plugin ecosystem, including some great SEO plugins. Webflow is awesome for creating beautiful sites (that can definitely rank), but I wouldn't recommend creating a huge content publishing site with it (think NerdWallet or Investopedia).

r/Wordpress on Reddit: WordPress or Webflow - Which one should I learn if I want to start a web development business?
November 23, 2020 -

I had built a couple of WordPress sites when I was in High school (about a decade ago). After learning the basics of HTML and CSS, I tried to get into web development during the lockdown. Soon I realized that it’s not sustainable to hand-code every single website from scratch since most of the websites required a CMS. I looked into some headless CMS like gatsby but found that it would be complex for the clients to manage and lacked a lot of integrations and SEO functionality. After looking through all the available options, I was confused between two - Webflow and WordPress.

When I dug a little deeper, there were a whole lot of people on youtube giving high praises to webflow like "webflow changed my life", "Webflow helped me charge 10X more". So I tried to give it a go. Since I knew the basics of HTML and CSS, it was not quite hard for me to pick up. Yes, we get granular control, clean code, and faster websites than WordPress. But the problem is, how does that translate to results for clients. How many clients would pay thrice the monthly subscription for a website that's marginally faster and a not-so-clunky CMS instead of the familiar one? I know for a fact that I would easily pick WordPress for one-third of the price if I'm just starting out.

TLDR; I find it hard to convince clients (and even myself) to use webflow over WordPress.

If I want to sell web design and web development to clients, which platform should I drill down to?

The problem is, from a client's perspective, webflow doesn't bring anything new to the table. It just makes the experience a little bit better.

And about security, really for a small business, If I'm using the right security plugins, actively updating them, and following all the best practices, How likely am I to get hacked while using WordPress?

WordPress is software which you can download and use anywhere. Webflow looks like it's a service which you can only use on their site and systems. There's literally zero reason to compare the two things, as webflow is not portable. It's not software. It's a service.

WordPress, established in 2005, was created with the vision of democratizing publishing on the internet. The goal of the site was to help standard users to start a blog or build a website without our need for technical knowledge. Currently, WordPress is powering more than a third of the sites across the internet. WordPress is a CMS that augments its functionality through plugins and themes, everything is open source so there is a wide range of abilities you can expand on, from just being a designer using existing plugins to being a developer and creating your own plugins. WordPress is highly customizable, well supported, and has many developers who constantly improve the product. It's also portable, if you don't like your current host you can easily migrate to another. Oh, and it's free :) WordPress also has its weaknesses, although you can customize it you are always limited by the theme you use, unless of course, you build your own theme. You also need to keep in mind that WordPress needs maintenance, you shouldn't just install it and forget about it, you need to keep it up to date or use a managed WordPress hosting provider where they'll do it for you. Regarding security, due to its popularity (rather than any inherent weakness), WordPress is a popular target for hackers. This issue can be mitigated like you've described, update the plugins regularly and add a plugin that will protect you from brute force login attacks. You can also select a managed WP hosting provider that provide malware clean up in case your site actually gets hacked. WebFlow, founded in 2013, is a real alternative to WordPress. The platform has been designed to allow you to build a website from the ground up with no coding required. According to stats provided by Webflow they have over a million users and have raised $75 million since launch. You can start with a blank canvas and close to build what you want. No coding required. Webflow allows you to design and develop completely custom sites visually, harnessing all the power of HTML, CSS and, JavaScript in a visual canvas. Webflow states that theirs is the only design tool that allows you to produce production-level code. Webflow provides a hosting service, so you won't have to search for a reliable hosting provider, it offers email support but only for issues regarding Webflow's functionality, helping you with your design is out of their scope. Webflow's main weakness is the steep learning curve, it uses site structures and layouts (like divs) that would be traditionally coded but you but you still need to learn how to build the website using their visual editor. Webflow locked-in issue, while you can export your code, you are in many ways locked into the Webflow platform. Webflow gives you the option of using a CMS database that allows you to build in things like a blog. If you export the code though, any functions that rely on the CMS won’t export. Unlike WordPress, where you can use a plugin to create functionality, such as email registration popup on a blog, Webflow has no such plugin system. It also won’t let you ‘hack’ the code to get it to do more custom tasks. Yes, it’s easy to create a great-looking website, but if you need additional functions, like a membership login, then Webflow is going to be more challenging to use. Webflow at its cheapest, you’ll be paying $12/month per site (paid annually), but if you want to remove WebFlow branding, include things like form uploads, code export, and have a lot of traffic then you are looking at around $70/month. > If I want to sell web design and web development to clients, which platform should I drill down to? I think WordPress will be a better choice. That's because your client may need to further improve or change the website and finding a WP developer/designer is really easy since WP has a huge community. source: https://pressidium.com/blog/2020/wordpress-vs-webflow/

Hi all, I am the only marketing employee of a Fintech with about 150 employees.

I wanted your thoughts on Webflow and whether it could be an appropriate replacement for Wordpress (what we have now) or if we stick with Wordpress…

Basically, we have a site with about 30 “main” pages, a few pages dedicated to only forms (forms made with Formassembly), and about 200 blog posts.

The Webflow agency obviously stated how great Webflow is for all these things but we currently use Wordpress and it works fine, our site is just ugly.

I am familiar with Wordpress but no idea on Webflow. We would likely get a retainer from the agency for the first 6 months for any edits. What would you do?

I don’t want Webflow to have 1,000 problems and my direct boss ( the CEO) be furious.

Im trying to gather perspectives on using Wordpress vs. Webflow for a website I have to rebuild.

My personal choice for this circumstance would be Wordpress as I think it will be more intuitive for the organization to learn how to operate and keep up after i'm gone. As most have little to no web design/ development experience mind you.

As I was looking up different opinions and perspectives on the matter I found this exact question but id like to ask it again with this situation in mind. Ive asked this on the Wordpress page as well but id like to be as fair and impartial as possible. Thus, if I could get some opinions from this sub to gather a range of qualitative data that is more accurate, that would be amazing!

Thoughts on Wordpress Vs Webflow?

Any & all greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

I'm in the process of appointing an agency to look after SEO and adwords for my business.

Agency 1 says they want me to migrate my current website from webflow to wordpress. They say it is a much better platform and will get better SEO results than if I am on webflow.

Agency 2 says I can stay on webflow and that they will get great results with it. When I asked them if wordpress was a better option that webflow for SEO they said there were pros and cons of each, but not enough to warrant migrating the site to wordpress.

I'm finding it tricky deciding which agency to go with in part because the wordpress vs webflow conversation has thrown me.

Hi all, I work for a company that creates enterprise social networks and intranets and we’re in the process of changing our website. I want something that looks too notch just like the websites of companies like Stripe, Intercom, Segment… I believe Webflow might be a solution but I still have doubts.

Does anyone here uses Webflow for their website?

How good is it for SEO, especially in terms of speed? Does it offer more design freedom than Wordpress? Does it require a lot of training for a professional designer?

Also if possible, if some of you built their startup website on Webflow, may I see the result?

Thanks a lot!

Intro:

I got very basic Web design knowledge and can put up a simple Wordpress website. Not much of a coder/designer but can alter the template to match the needs. I want to start a Web Agency that helps people with their websites and marketing, run Google Ads to get more traffic, and help people sell more products and such (Big vision but I am willing to put the effort with time and even get help from others like freelancers to get this going).

Since recently Webflow has been popping up on my feeds. I guess the Digital Marketing is at it best. And, I checked some of the YT videos and many say it's best for design, has it's advantages, future-proof and all. But, I would like to get your opinions on this; the practical and real-user opinions.

  1. Is Webflow Worth learning compared to learning Wordpress?

  2. Is Webflow worth the price? Compared to WP which only needs hosting and a domain after you make the initial purchases for the theme and plugins.

  3. How scalable is Webflow? Make static websites, Blogs, shopping websites, commercial websites etc?

  4. What are some of the limitations you found with Webflow?

  5. Does the Website speed actually better compared to Wordpress sites because of the clean code and AWS hosting?

  6. Have you experienced better SEO or comparatively easy SEO with WF or WP?

  7. Is there something you can do with WF or can't do with WF, when compared to WP?

  8. Webdesign, websites change now to Mobile-first approach because of the billions of mobile users and I want to actually focus on this aspect for the designs compared to Traditional Desktop designs. Is this doable or should we mainly focus on Desktop design and then do Mobile as responsive?

I know it's too much questions but these are some of the questions I got in mind. It's like the FB slogan, Go Big or Go Home. So, many questions and thought I could get your honest ideas and explanations on this.

Thanks in Advance!
