If OP is interested, I can explain the tax issue. First and foremost you need to understand that if ANY part of the subscription, ie Prime, meets the tax requirement then it becomes taxable as a whole. That’s pretty standard in tax law. What does meet this requirement is that Amazon offers free monthly books to Prime members, called Amazon First Read, that transfers to the user permanently, even if they discontinue Prime. THIS is what meets the tax requirement. Whether you use that benefit or not, it doesn’t matter. And this is why Georgia requires Amazon to collect sales tax on Prime memberships. More on reddit.com

I just cancelled my Prime. When I signed up for prime it was just for the fast shipping. Then they added video, music, and a steady price creep. And I almost never use any of it. Expedited shipping was worth $80 a year when I got it and Amazon was far and away ahead of the brick-and-mortars in online shopping/shipping. The brick-and-mortars have caught up and Prime has added a lot of fat. Not worth $140+. More on reddit.com

It's clear, people are dropping their prime memberships precipitously. I have been with prime since they started in 2005 at $79 per year. Back then it was only for shipping, as streaming was not a thing and none of the other "benefits" had come into existence yet. That's 19 years! Although I have significantly reduced my ordering from Amazon due to one problem after another (as detailed in many many of these posts.) Given my current disdain for Amazon, I feel kind of icky maintaining my membership. However, I still see a modest benefit from it. Anyone else similarly conflicted? Can you stream prime without the full membership? Decisions decisions.
