U.S. Unemployment Rate Rises, a Warning Sign for the Economy - The New York Times
3 weeks ago - Black workers are often harbingers of what’s to come in the labor market. They have been buffeted by federal policies over the past year, especially federal layoffs. Losses in manufacturing: Manufacturing shed 5,000 jobs in November. So far, the sector has not appeared to benefit from President Trump’s trade war, which he and his administration have argued will bring manufacturing jobs back to the United States. Off schedule: This report is late and a bit complicated, because of the 43-day government shutdown that ended last month.

The U.S. added just 64,000 jobs in November -- a sign the labor market is slowing
3 weeks ago - U.S. employers added just 64,000 jobs in November, according to a delayed report from the Labor Department Tuesday, while the unemployment rate rose to 4.6% from 4.4% in September. That's the highest unemployment rate in more than four years. The jobs report was initially set to come out earlier this month, but the government's ability to monitor the job market was hampered by the six-week federal shutdown.

After Shutdown, Labor Department Says Some Data is Gone for Good - The New York Times

September Jobs Report: Hiring Increased in September, but So Did the Unemployment Rate - The New York Times
November 21, 2025 - The shutdown, which stretched on for over 40 days and was the longest on record, delayed a raft of other crucial reports, some of which will not come out until after the Fed’s decision. The Fed will get some other data before its policy decision, including September’s retail sales figures, data tracking prices for goods and services that companies use to make products and statistics related to job turnover. Only part of October’s jobs report will be released alongside November’s data, which now is scheduled for Dec.

What To Expect From Tuesday's Jobs Report
3 weeks ago - It will combine data that the BLS normally would have released in early November and then early December, had the government not been shut down. It will also omit October’s unemployment rate and other household-survey data, which were never collected because of the shutdown. The most recent jobs reports showed that growth slowed down significantly this summer, and is now running far below the 147,000 jobs added per month in the 12 months through April.
