hello everyone.
i'm currently with capital one, but with the switch over to the discover network, i'm hoping to make the change to another bank that still offers debit mastercards and was looking for any recommendations! thanks so much!
I believe visa is most common. In my minimal wallet I’d like to just carry my bcp, a visa atm, and visa credit card. I would carry the discover and master card in a secondary wallet that I would carry only if I want to or feel the need. Ty
I notice this more now that Costco switched to Visa. A good portion of my credit and debit cards were switched from Visa to Mastercard over the last ~10 years. Is there a reason?
I would think that either:
Visa allows the bank to make a higher cut, in which case, most banks would use Visa
MasterCard allows the bank to make a higher cut, in which case, most banks would use MasterCard
However, it seems relatively divided - some banks seems to prefer one while other prefer the other.
PayPal, Capital One, Citibank, and Keybank all seem to prefer MasterCard.
Wells Fargo, US Bank, Bank of America, and PenFed all seem to prefer Visa.
Chase seems to prefer Visa EXCEPT for their Freedom Flex card, for which they went out of their way to convert to MasterCard (and the old Freedom Visa is no longer obtainable to new customers)
What factors do banks use to decide whether to use MasterCard or Visa? Furthermore, which factors are different enough across banks to cause some to prefer MasterCard, while others prefer Visa?
