It is something web developers use to manage all the trackers and libraries that they use. When you look at certain things or do certain things on a page (move mouse, scroll, some typing and clicks) the developer wants to record that as an event so that they can analyze what users do. Google Analytics, Omniture, Amplitude and a bunch of other systems collect and store these events for different kinds of analysis. Rather than do everything several times (once for each type of analysis they want), they can just use the tag manager and have it sort everything out so it all works neatly. As a user it makes little difference, you are still being watched and tracked as much as ever, just the web page code is cleaner! (I think this is correct but please correct me if I got it wrong - it had been almost a decade since I touched this stuff). Answer from Deleted User on reddit.com

r/GoogleTagManager on Reddit: Where do I go to check analytics data on GTM
November 20, 2021 -

Hi all, I've recently added GTM code to my clients squarespace site and when I click to preview and run the debugger. The GTM window shows the tag trigger firing, and the sourcecode is clearly displayed when I look at the website sourcecode.

The problem, when I go to Google analytics page, there is no impressions or clicks to view. And I'm not finding any useful info on where to check for website metrics on the google tag manager dashboard.

I read somewhere that while using GTM, you're not supposed to have the google analytics code in the website header and footer.

Did I miss a step?

TLDR: How do I see daily page views from google tag manager dashboard? triggers seem to be firing correctly

r/GoogleTagManager on Reddit: Google Tag Manager not tracking engagement
February 5, 2025 -

Hi Guys,

Hopefully you can help me out. I have some experience in GTM, and I have set up conversion tracking for clients multiple times, but I've hit a wall with this one.

So one of our clients has Google Tag Manager installed on their website via their web developer/branding agency. The quality of the container is excellent, and everything seemed great. However now we face the issue that none of the engagement is getting tracked by Google Tag Manager. What I mean by that is that none of the clicks are even being recorded, no click url's, click text or whatever is getting tracked. No information is being shown, which makes it pretty impossible for us to set up conversion tracking.

Does anyone recognize this issue? I have no idea how to fix this. We've installed cookies so that's not the issue.

Thanks in advance!
