What is the best way to run Kali Linux with Windows
How do I keep windows as well as install Kali linux on a same laptop?
Kali Linux on Windows 10 or in a VM?
The VM is still the best option for the majority of the tools. GUI based tools require some modifications and work-arounds to make work. The networking side of WSL still has some major kinks. For WSLv1 there were issues with getting proper responses in tools like Nmap. With WSLv2 being rolled out, it's now a slimmed down VM, but the networking is reduced to NAT only, which again affects routing and responses of the packets sent. If they implement bridge mode in WSLv2 at some point, it might be a good option to re-evaluate.
I do use the WSL with Kali for manipulation of files on my system. Running python, grep, post-processing of packet captures, etc. I haven't run in to many issues with local usage command-line tools.
tl,dr; The tools work better in a true virtualized environment, but WSL has its uses.
