Intermediate Player: Is the Yamaha P71 adequate?
Fact is, speaker quality in all slab DPs, including the more expensive ones, is poor. In budget DPs it is outright miserable. And there are big differences among them (much bigger than among good speakers!). Decent headphones are less expensive than decent speakers. Sure you are welcome connect external speakers if you think they are better, especially if you've already got them and don't mind the extra wire. Another thing you should consider is how the key action feels. I don't like the P/CLP key actions, but this is subjective and you should try yourself. Check also Roland FP-30, Kawai ES110, and also pricier models for reference. More on reddit.com

The p45 and p71 are the exact same thing. The p71 is simply a p45 that is an amazon "exclusive." The 125a and 125b are also the same instrument, and both the same as anything labeled simply "p125." The 125 is definitely a noticeable improvement, but it's up to you. The p45 is a capable beginner instrument that's fine for learning on. There are other good models in similar price ranges. You can check the FAQ of this sub for more information. Yamahas are extremely reliable in my experience. Not sure how much the guitar center warranty costs but I wouldn't feel obligated. Maybe if it's just an extra 10 or 20 bucks or something. More on reddit.com
