Hey!

So far loving Zen browser, installed it just to see what was up and fell in love! What a lovely little browser.

The only problem I've encountered so far was getting the 1Password extension to communicate with the macOS app. It seems someone already asked the 1Password community about this and got a reply what the problem is:

Would it be possible for the proposed solution there to be implemented, or is it something not really possible in the near future?

Trying to find the latest way to get 1password browser integration with app on Linux. macOS: I got it working on macOS. In the app on macOS , under Settings -> Browser I have two options "Get 1Password for your Browser" and "Connect to additional browsers" ... in this area you can add Zen browser to the list . At first glance it seems to work. If I lock 1pw from the browser plugin, it locks the app as well. Linux: Now on Linux, the Settings -> browser has no option to "Connect to additional browsers" . It only has the first option. I've found this suggestion to get the integration working https://github.com/zen-browser/desktop/issues/361#issuecomment-2308570512 sudo mkdir /etc/1password sudo touch /etc/1password/custom_allowed_browsers echo "zen-bin" | sudo tee -a /etc/1password/custom_allowed_browsers But didn't work. This would be super nice, as it enables things like fingerprint login to 1password which makes it a lot easier to use day to day....

Hi,

I’ve been using Zen browser for some time and I was wondering if there is any plans or awareness regarding the integration aspect of the desktop app and the browser extension in Windows 11. I know it’s a niche ask and the browser is still in beta but it’s currently working as intended on both macOS and Linux (with some workarounds).

It would definitely be nice not to have to unlock the app on both the desktop app and browser.

Sadly 1Password doesn’t want to manually whitelist browsers anymore (unless it’s a browser like Arc..), so until they develop the “trusted custom browser support” feature for Windows (it’s already working on Linux and Mac), there’s sadly nothing you can do. Nope. 1Password has preferred browsers that they favor. Others are lower class that they gatekeep you from.

The 1Password extension is the last essential extension preventing me from switching to Zen. It can be installed, but cannot integrate with the desktop app on Windows.

Is anyone from the Zen team in contact with 1Password? They are normally pretty fast to react and always interested in collaboration afaik.

Zen isn’t included as a default trusted browser by 1Password. You just have to manually add it and it works as well as Firefox. In the 1Pass app on your computer go to 1Password > ‌Settings > Browser > Add Browser, then select Zen. After that it will work like you expect.

I'm in the same boat. The extension works fine but it doesn't tie into the app to use Windows Hello for log which is a real bummer. From what I understand this is something AgileBits (1Password developer) has to fix. Something about adding it as a trusted browser or something like that. I could be wrong though.

Downloaded Zen Browser a few minutes a go and so far I like it a lot. The only problem I'm having so far is the fact that the 1password extension isn't hooking into windows hello to unlock it. It's a feature I've gotten used to on chromium based browsers and would like to get it on zen if I can.

This is the first firefox browser I've used in over a decade so I'm not sure if this a zen thing or a firefox thing.

It's a 1password thing. In order to use windows hello you have to have the desktop app hook into the extension. Unfortunately/fortunately, depending on how you look at it, that integration between desktop and extension is only supported in trusted browsers: Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Brave, and Vivaldi.

Cela signifie que vous devez utiliser l'extension indépendamment de l'intégration de bureau, ce qui nécessite une connexion excessive via l'extension. Existe-t-il un moyen de contourner et d'ajouter un navigateur personnalisé à la liste de confiance en modifiant les fichiers de configuration de 1Password ou autre ? Je me demande s'il existe un moyen d'ajouter des remplacements codés en dur pour les navigateurs personnalisés. Malheureusement, en tant que grand utilisateur de 1Password, c'est un gros obstacle pour moi à surmonter pour l'utiliser comme mon pilote quotidien sous Windows, malgré ses performances supérieures à celles d'Arc d'une mile.

TL;DR : aucune solution de contournement/correction pour le moment, mais ils étudient la question soit en rendant Zen de confiance, soit en apportant la fonctionnalité de navigateur personnalisé présente sur MacOS et Linux à la version Windows de 1Password également. Pas d'ETA cependant.

I use Bitwarden, so it works really well. Also, there is native password manager.

1Password doesn’t allow communication between Zen and the desktop application on Windows. It works on Mac. As of today, 1Password doesn’t allow setting a custom browser on Windows. Generally speaking, Zen supports password managers.
