Good plywood on top from Boulter Plywood north of Boston (a 3 hour round trip for me). Horrible plywood from Lowe’s (a 15 min round trip for me). Both are 3/4” “Maple” plywood, but I swear the Lowe’s wood has a finish on it. It is shiny and very smooth. The inner ply’s are garbage. I normally don’t mind exposed plywood edges on my personal projects but I can’t do that with the Lowe’s wood.
For SoCal woodworkers: What's the cheapest I can get a 4x8 3/4" Birch plywood sheet for?
Beware Lowe’s 3/4” Oak HPVA plywood
don't buy plywood from Home Depot or Lowe's - All Other Activities, Gear & Resources - Offroad Passport
3/4 inch plywood - FineWoodworking
I live in Los Angeles, the land of things being overpriced. I called up a bunch of lumber yards, and the cheapest i could get a 4x8 3/4" Birch plywood sheet for was 40 USD. Not terrible, but I'd love to see if i can get something for cheaper, since I need like 7 of them.
Are there any websites that don't charge extortionate shipping where I can find the stuff? Or, are there lumber yards in LA where I can find them for cheaper?
If not LA, I'm more than happy to leave the county and go on a little adventure to a lumber yard where I can find it for cheaper.
I'm very new to this, so any wisdom would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

This stuff is $62 per sheet and it basically cannot be cross-cut without major tear out. Even going very slow taping the seams with a new blade the veneer is tearing out everywhere...
Also the glue between the plys is garbage. If you have any flex at all when moving it while separate. I even had one of them separate when cross cutting.
Very Annoyed. May be a bad batch, but I would avoid.
I just went to get another blade with more teeth because I really don’t want to lug this back to the store lol. I already did the rip cuts on 4 sheets of plywood
