Ey up.
I'm playing with ATM7, I want to setup refined storage but currently, I can't figure out a way within the mod to actually generate power. Is there currently a way to do so or have none of the mods that generate power made it to the modpack yet?
Wait there’s already an ATM 7? I gotta hurry up if so
Immersive Engineering was just added today. Should help with your power needs along with bigger reactors.

Hello! Im new to All The Mods 7. And I wonderd how to power up my Metallurgic. I have looked it up on Youtube but havent found anyone describing how to do it. If an gentle soul could help me with this i would really appreciate it!
If you're just starting, make a Stirling generator, any mod version will do. If you opt for a Stirling Dynamo, make sure the red connector is facing into the Metallurgic Infuser. Something like a Crescent Hammer will rotate it if needed. This is very early power and I would suggest some sort of automatic tree farm for charcoal if you intend to use stirlings for a while.
Check out other means of power via mods for later game, but this will work in a pinch.
I normally just use a heat generator surrounded by lava at first. In addition, if you chunk load a few of them in the nether connected to a flux network then you can basically get wireless energy going on.
Ways to get wireless rf power for a digital miner or just alot of rf get transferred
I'm used to FTB Direwolf20 where I could pump lava into an endertank and use magmatic dynamos to convert to RF however im not sure if thats possible or even the best option in this modpack
I am creating more power than I am using and I am wonder if there is a power-sink in the modpack that i could look into? Other packs I've used had laser drills or anti-matter generators or whatever. I don't see any of my old favorites in this one... what do people use their power for?
Ive been seeing a lot of the same questions around here and there are a few things that I wish that I knew before I started out so ive condensed them down into one handy post. This is accurate up to version 0.2.21 and if people find it useful then I will continue to update it.
Before loading:
-
This modpack like all others loves RAM, I typically run with 12GB allocated but I would say 8+ is recommended.
-
To change the amount of RAM that is used right click on the modpack on curseforge and press "View profile" followed by the three dots icon, then press profile options. Scroll down a little bit here, uncheck "use system memory settings" and drag the slider to the amount of RAM you want to use.
First things when in game:
-
Set up your controls! The main thing for me was vein miner, its called excavate under the control settings. Bind it to a button that is easy to press since you will be using it a lot!
Power Generation:
-
Right now there are very limited power generation options in the modpack. In order of power that they generate your options are the coal generator -> solar panels -> thermoelectric generator -> big reactors.
-
Honestly I would say that as soon as you are looking into power then skip right ahead to the smallest big reactor, a 3x3x3. This will generate enough power for you for a long time early on, mainly due to the limited number of things that use power right now.
-
If you can't make a big reactor then the thermoelectric generator isn't too expensive but you will need to use the wires included in that mod which can make things a bit messy. I used solar panels for a while but with limited options for storing your power then they feel weak to use from the start.
Cables and pipes:
-
There is only one type of pipe in the game for items right now; those from the pipez mod.
-
These can transfer fluids, energy, items, or any of the 3.
-
There is a wrench included with the mod that you must use to make the pipes actually work, even the energy ones. Press crouch and right click on the end of the pipe that you want to extract from, it will then distribute its contents to everywhere that it is connected to.
-
You can not insert items into a pipe that you have made to extraction mode. For example if you create an energy storage, you will need one energy pipe as your input to the storage, one for taking the energy out.
-
The pipes can be upgraded with a speed upgrade.
Ores and JEI:
-
Want to know where any ore spawns? Click on it through JEI to bring up the world gen graph for its chances to spawn at different heights. This will only work on the cobblestone version of the ore, not its deepslate version.
-
Some ores will tell you where they spawn without clicking on it, but simply hovering over it in JEI instead. Allthemodium is an example of this.
Furnaces:
-
The base furnace can be upgraded through various tiers using ores that you have collected, this will increase the smelting speed but not the fuel usage per item.
-
There are two options for electric furnaces in the mod pack right now, I am using the electric blast furnace. It can not be upgraded but it works with the energy pipes and so is simple to integrate.
Storage solutions:
-
In the early game chests are of course great, they can be upgraded to bigger storage sizes as well if you like to have a big mess of items. I couldn't use the wood -> iron upgrade on my chest and had to create the iron one before being able to upgrade further.
-
Drawers are great. They can be upgraded for more capacity as well as just deleting items you have too many of.
-
ME system vs Refined storage: Personally I went with an ME system as it is something that I am used to, but for those not used to either, refined storage is normally considered better to use outside of a few specific use cases. If you're unsure on what to pick, go for refined storage.
-
For those wanting to use an ME system, you will need to find the patterns used in the inscribers inside meteors around the world. All meteors will have a chest inside, only chests inside of a cube of fluix blocks will have the patterns inside.
-
Be sure to connect some compacting drawers to your ME system for your ores, this will let you use nuggets, ingots, and blocks, all in your crafting menu but with one less step involved.
-
When you need to use the crystal growth accelerator then make sure that they are powered, JEI wont tell you that they need power but they do. They will also drain your power passively so be sure to disconnect them completely if youre short on fuel.
Farming:
-
Farming plants for resources is great, however you will need to do this manually as there isn't a way to harvest crops automatically right now. It may be possible with a right clicking machine set up but I haven't given it a try.
-
Once you get some inferium then be sure to upgrade your farmland to the higher tiers, this will give you more drops from your crops but will not increase their growing speed.
-
Prosperity shards are much easier to find in the nether and the end.
Quarries:
-
The solid fuel quarry is fairly slow but can be a great stepping stone into the quarry plus.
-
To craft everything in the quarry plus mod then you will need to make it all in an assembly table. Its not called the assembly table in atm7 but it is pretty much the same process for crafting items, only difference is that it just needs power and not lasers.
-
Sometimes this block will bug out and not craft anything even when you have selected it, break and replace it to fix this.
-
Items crafted here are not stored in a buffer and are instead shot out of a random side when the crafting is complete, try not to forget your expensive items being crafted here as it will despawn on the ground.
Bees:
-
I haven't looked into bees, they could be great and they look cute, give them a try.
Got any more tips or corrections? Let me know and they can be added to the list.
