I returned an item right before Christmas by dropping it off at the UPS store, and they scanned the QR code and gave me a receipt. When I check the return status it's still showing "return requested" and telling me I need to return it by February something. There's a reference number on the receipt from the UPS store, but how do I check it? I don't see a spot on amazon to do so, and on the receipt it says to "contact Amazon for status." I already got the replacement item, but I'm worried that they are going to double charge me because they didn't update the return to show that I returned it!

It happens frequently around this time of year. I had to wait a month last year around Christmas for a return to be processed, and seems like this year is the same for me. Since it got boxed up at UPS with a lot of other people's return items, we don't get an individual tracking number. I think it depends how busy UPS is.....sometimes they will box up my item individually and I get my own tracking number but around December, it's just a reference number without tracking because they put many return items in one big box. And of course the frustrating thing is there is no way to know where your return item currently is, since the return page is useless and makes it seem like you still have the item However, that reference number in the UPS receipt can actually be tracked on Amazon's internal system. I forget exactly how but I did it last year after calling them repeatedly about my returned item not being refunded for a month. It's some web address that incorporates that reference number at the end. It can show you more specific tracking info if you figure out what the web address is that Amazon uses

I dropped off a few Amazon returns at Kohls yesterday and was given tracking IDs. I've spoken with Kohls customer support and Amazon customer support. I've also entered the tracking ID in all of the carriers Kohls has listed on one of their help pages, but it all turns up invalid.

Does anyone where where I can use this tracking ID?

I think they changed it so you can only do it through the app now. The option to track it seems to be missing from the webpage, but it's still there on the app. The other issue, of course, is when you pick drop-off locations, they don't give you your refund till after they get the item back. I've never had that issue using a UPS store, as soon as they scan it, I get my refund. So my advice is to do that, plus it costs them money.

I dropped off the package last Saturday. Their printer wasn’t working so she told me to take a picture of the return label instead of giving me a receipt.

When I track the 1Z number it says label created but there’s no activity after that. The label also has the Amazon RMA and the code RED.

I haven’t received any emails from Amazon regarding the return. Typically I receive an email right away but these are higher value items.

How do I know it’s on its way back to Amazon and not just sitting at the UPS Store?

Give it two weeks, if you do not get refunded, contact Amazon. Amazon suggests waiting two weeks before contacting for a refund. Make sure you keep the time and date on the photo you took with the RMA. They should be easily able to refund you based on that if you aren't already in two weeks.

The RED code means that it will be consolidated into a larger carton with other Amazon items so the 1Z tracking number will not ever show up in the UPS system. Once the carton is full, it will be shipped to Amazon. When Amazon receives the carton, they process the items. For most of our stores the cartons are shipped out daily. RED carton items are frequently not refunded until Amazon processes them. Typically RED items are either high value, 3rd party that actually wants it back, or they will be audited because they were returned as damaged or incorrect item shipped. If you don't receive your refund in a week or so, contact Amazon and send them the photo you took in lieu of a receipt.

Monday I dropped off 2 returns, one of them in an Amazon Prime box and the other in some other one I had. The one in the Prime box (call this box A) was scanned and so was the other. Heres the issue, box A was scanned and he refund was processed, box B, has nothing, the tracking number says "Shipment Ready For UPS" and "When the shipment arrives at the facility it will be processed". Except I watched the guy scan it and put it down next to box A. Whats going on here? Did it get stolen, I just want my refund, if it was stolen the thief got a hardware bricked Ubiquiti Security Gateway.

If you have the receipt for dropping them off, just call Amazon. They'll give you the refund back. I'd also read the instructions Amazon gave you to see if they say "the UPS store will box and package this item for you." if that's the case, then they had to throw that box into a bigger consolidation box. The tracking number that Amazon gave you isn't a real tracking number in that case because the item is a consolidated item. It's the most annoying thing in the world. I’m guessing this was a UPS store? Did you get a receipt for the drop off? If they were dropped off today, they will both get scans tonight when they leave the center. UPS stores in my area don’t get picked up till 6 or 6:30, and they may not leave the center till anytime between 8pm to 3am.
