r/CODWarzone on Reddit: AMD Settings, Filters and Colours
January 11, 2022 -

Hi guys,

I see a lot of posts, videos and search results for various Nvidia Freestyle filters but not so much around AMD settings. I've been messing with different settings myself for AMD and incorporating bits from the few resources I can find.

Warzone Settings

Best place to start is to optimise Warzone for visibility but still considering performance.

Graphics Settings:

Details and Textures Post Processing Effects Shadow and Lighting

Most settings are disable or set to low, with the aim of increasing visibility and fps. With the exception of textures and shadows. You can decrease the texture resolution for a small FPS gain or increase it for slightly better textures on nearby textures.

Shadows could be set to low but have read a lot about setting to high doesn't actually decrease FPS too much or sometimes not at all but removing some sort of "filter" that appears on low resolution shadows.

Display Settings:

Resolution

Resolution

Mostly standard settings here apart from increasing the render resolution. I've found increasing this value helps clean up the jaggie edges, that anti-aliasing would do but done in a cleaner and sharper method. Essentially running a form of super sampling by having the game render at a higher quality resolution and then down sampled to my native 1440 display.

I used to prefer running Filmic SMAA T2X but the blurriness introduced really impacted visibility in certain situations. With Nvidia filters, you can apply a bunch of sharpening filters to reduce that but AMD's sharpening is good but not strong enough to fight the overall blurriness.

Increasing the render resolution will be more demanding on your GPU but I didn't notice a dramatic drop in frames, 10-20 fps in busier areas. I went from averaging 140+ fps, to now 120+ fps but worth the trade off for visibility.

Frame Limit and HDR

I set a custom framerate limit to keep FPS in Freesync range but this will be depending on your own setup. Some will suggest unlimited others limit to keep fps within monitor range.

I have an HDR monitor and decided to start enabling HDR in Warzone. I've often read it's a big no no for Warzone and the likes but I've found it really helps the lighting and contrast in game for these settings and my monitor. Your monitor might even have a fake HDR setting that would have the same effect.

Interface Settings:

Colour blind filters

I'm not using any currently but have messed around with the Tritanopia filter. Have seen pros using this filter a lot and it drastically changes the colours of Warzone. Seems useful for visibility in certain areas but can find the colouring off putting at times, 50/50 on this one. Down to your own preference.

Radeon Settings

Graphics Settings:

Radeon Graphics

I set these setting per game profile and this is for Warzone. Found these settings the best for performance and helped eliminate micro stuttering I had encountered at times.

Radeon Image Sharpening is my favourite part here. I like a sharp image and feel it helps with spotting enemies, especially on the edges of rocks or a building. You may want to decrease the sharpening if it's not to your taste.

Display Settings:

Radeon Colours

Not all AMD GPUs have the ability to use Display Colour Enhancement but if you do, definitely try it out. Really makes things pop and the colours and lighting aren't as dull/flat.

Other colour settings are aimed at increasing the vibrance and reducing the yellow-ish tint. You may want to tweak this depending on your monitor settings.

If anyone has feedback or suggestions of their own, I'm open to hearing some.

AMD is driving me crazy! Competitive gaming Nvidia Freestyle rant | [H]ard|Forum
October 29, 2020 - Nvidia has had Color Filters as part of Nvidia Freestyle for over 2 years, in all that time AMD still hasn't done anything to address this critical missing feature in their software suite. I'm a lifelong ATI/AMD fanboy but I CANNOT play games like Call of Duty 2019, Tarkov and Warzone without the Nvidia color filters, it's just too difficult to see people without them!

GAME CHANGING Warzone Graphic Settings Combined with 3 Essential NVIDIA Filters; Must Try | CODForums | Best Call of Duty Forums
April 12, 2021 - The solution was introduced by the new AMD GPU 6900xt. This GPU has SAM tech (Smart Access Memory) which allows for information from CPU to travel in packets rather than individual pieces of information, thus allowing the GPU to produce significantly more frames. The live test I saw with 5950x and 6900xt showed 220-230 FPS downtown in Warzone, which is insane!

r/CODWarzone on Reddit: Color / Filter Settings for S3 on AMD Graphics Cards
April 28, 2021 -

So a little while back I made a post about the settings I used for Warzone to best increase visibility, improve the look of the game, and to try and mimic the outcome of Nvidia filters for those of us who have AMD graphics cards. Then, S3 drops and completely changes the way the game looks!

Overall, the change was a net positive. The world is now brighter and dark characters such as Roze have been changed to reflect more light so they cannot blend in the shadows as much. However, this change also added some weird color filters between outdoor and indoor lighting that make things sort of hazy. I'm hoping that is temporary, but what all of these changes did was make my previous settings obsolete. With that being said, here are my new settings that I have been using to great effect as well as some before and after photos for you to compare!

In game:

Textures - Normal

Anti-Aliasing - Filmic SMAA T2x

As explained by TrueGameData, having this maxed out really helps with visibility at range because there aren't those constantly moving pixels from trees and birds messing with your peripheral vision. If you don't want to take the performance hit, run SMAA 1x.

Brightness - 60

Everything else - Low or Off

In AMD Radeon Software:

Sharpness - 100

This is probably the most dramatic difference between the two screenshots if you flip back and forth! This cuts through the blurriness that Filmic SMAA T2x creates when softening edges and makes the game look so good.

Radeon Boost - 83.33%

This is a feature I use simply to keep my frames consistent. What it does is allow the software to reduce your games render resolution when in situations where the graphics are high intensity in order to maintain the highest framerate possible. Having it set at the highest level (83.33% full resolution) means I have never noticed when this has happened and my frames stay around 80-90 at 1440p on my RX 5600XT.

Surface Format Optimization - Performance

To be honest, I'm not positive this does much of anything, however based on my research other have recommended it to help with framerate. I haven't noticed a decrease in texture quality whatsoever, so I leave it on.

Display Color Enhancement - Vivid Gaming

This is a new feature of the software that was added in one of the more recent updates. I have been using this as opposed to touching the Contrast and Saturation settings, and honestly, it works great in this new season! It's a subtle improvement but it makes the game look brighter without blowing me out, more realistic, and increases visibility in all areas of the map. You can't see this in the screenshots because this is essentially a filter that gets added to the monitor and not the game itself, however I suggest you all try it out for yourselves! If its not quite enough, I would make small adjustments to saturation and contrast along with it.

I hope this helps my AMD fam get their next dub, if you have any questions or comments please leave them below and I will do my best to respond asap! See you in the Warzone!

EDIT 4/28/21: I have tested around and found that if you adjust color temperature to 6400 in the AMD Software, the world looks more natural as opposed to having the blue-tinged retro look. If you do not have access to the Display Color Enhancement feature for Vivid Gaming, try these:

Sharpness: 100, Color Temp: 6400, Contrast: 110-120, Saturation: 150-180, In Game Brightness: 55-60

Give it a shot and again let me know what you all think!

r/Warzone on Reddit: Nvidia vs AMD in-game overlay filters.
November 24, 2020 -

Hi

After some weeks of playing, I noticed that it is pretty hard for me to see enemies clearly, expecially if they're in dark spots, inside houses and so on. I then looked up on YouTube to see what are the best visibility settings for this game and I found a lot of videos with "clickbait titles" like "Warzone has secret settings???", opened them up, and actually each one of them uses the Nvidia Freestyle game filter to change the visuals of the game. And actually the results are stunning, compared to the stock settings: enemies are pretty easily spottable in dark areas and shadows. So I tried reproducing these settings with my AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT card, throughout the Amd Radeon Sotware (Adrenalin 2020) overlay, but the results are not even similar. Doesn't matter the settings I've tried, but none of them come close to how the game looks with the Nvidia game filters. It can actually lets you set "Shadows" and so on, while Amd software doesn't, and I feel like this is a big disadvantage for me.

I'm looking forward to find a solution to this problem, I'd like to enhance the overall visuals of the game, because increasing "brightness" doesn't get the job done, as the game looks like shit and you still can't see enemies properly in the dark.

My question is: Is it possible to get a 3rd parts overlay that has some good options to set visuals? Or is it possible to download Nvidia freestyle directly, even if I have an AMD gpu? If not, is there any solution, any settings I should try to get better visibility? Thanks.

r/CODWarzone on Reddit: AMD Radeon Settings for Warzone Visibility
February 22, 2021 -

https://imgur.com/gallery/Tiu8jZp

Hello all,

I posed a question here a little bit ago asking for tips on how best to increase visibility in WZ through the AMD Radeon Software, to no avail. I had seen so many streamers and pro players using the Nvidia Software to create filters that help with visibility in dark areas of the map while also adding better color to the game, and I wanted that for myself. I could not find a single guide, tutorial, or post anywhere online on how to get this same effect through the AMD Radeon Software, so I said, "Screw it. I'll test around and make it myself."

For those who just want to see the settings I used and the results, there are images linked above (I had to use my phone because screen capturing didn't reflect the changes, sorry if the quality is a bit meh). For the rest of you who want me to explain my choices, here is my thought process:

Sharpness - 100%

AMD's sharpness effect is a great boost when using any form of Anti Aliasing, because it helps to keep those crisp edges after AA smudges things up. I haven't noticed any performance losses or image quality issues, so I threw it all the way up. You can keep it between 70-100% depending on preference.

Hue - 2

Hue is used to adjust the overall color palette of the game. Negative hue increases yellows/greens while reducing reds/pinks, and positive hue does the opposite. I chose a slight positive hue to make the game feel less drab, but that's a preference thing. I chose this over the commonly used Deuteranopia Colorblindness filter because I feel like that makes the game look too unnatural.

Contrast - 120

This setting was probably the one that was most difficult to tune properly. The Nvidia Color Filters allow Nvidia users to increase contrast while also limiting the effect it has on shadows and highlights. This allows them to boost contrast and reduce highlights so they don't get blown out by sunlight. AMD users don't have this luxury. I tied to reduce contrast, thinking maybe that will allow me to more clearly see shadows by boosting brightness, however this made things horrifically smudgy and sucked the color out of the game.

Instead I chose to boost contrast just a little and set brightness to about 50-55%, that way you can get the definition necessary to spot targets while not getting completely blinded every time you exit a building in the sun. It' not perfect, but so far it works!

Saturation - 180

The base game is honestly pretty dull color-wise. It's much better than previous CoD's, but it's not great. Adding saturation not only helps with visibility, but it just makes the game look so much better. I wouldn't go anywhere below 150 on this, and you really could max it at 200 if you prefer some serious pop, but 175-180 felt right to me.

Beyond these settings for visibility, I have brightness at 55%, Radeon Anti-Lag on, and AA at SMAA 1x (although TrueGameData suggests maxing out AA to see movement better at distance). I hope this post helps my AMD family out there get their next dub! Thanks for reading!
