December 18, 2009 - Kirsten Larson — "a pioneer girl of strength and spirit growing up in Minnesota in 1854" — is the latest creation to be retired by American Girl, the doll-making franchise famous for churning out wholesome dolls, books, clothing and movies steeped in history for more than two decades.

June 25, 2020 - Kirsten Larson was one of the first dolls that Pleasant Company released with Samantha Parkington and Molly McIntire in 1986. Kirsten Larson was the second doll to ever be retired by American Girl in the Historical Character line in 2010.

Kirsten was one of the first three characters in The American Girls Collection, along with Samantha and Molly, when Pleasant Company debuted. The Kirsten doll and accessories were “archived” in 2010 and have only been rereleased once in 2021 and once in 2024 since then.

December 2, 2025 - American Girl started sending out letters in fall 2009 stating that they would archive Kirsten Larson's entire collection; the doll and her collection would no longer be available for purchase online, at stores, or through catalogs with the exception of books and the mini doll.

August 1, 2019 - My 1995 Kirsten has a very thick body and quite the caboose! 😉 Her tan body is darker and has slowly been acquiring age spots that my earlier dolls have not been getting. ... After Mattel bought Pleasant Company in 1998, things started to slowly change. Over the years the dolls became much thinner and acquired body tags. Their neck stamp changed from Pleasant Company to American Girl.

January 23, 2020 - Kirsten’s Meet dress is soft blue with small pink flowers. It has a grow stripe which is a sewn, folded band that could be let out as a girl grew. The very first versions of the dress had a paper tag saying Made in West Germany for Pleasant Company 1986, later the tag changed to material but still said the same thing. In the 90’s the tags had a year followed by Pleasant Company and finally ended with an American Girl tag after 2000.

Customer: Hello -- I have an original Kirsten Larson doll from 1986 which was made, along with her clothing, in West Germany and signed and dated by Franz Gotz on her belly. I've never seen her costume before on any Kirsten Larson doll, and I've never seen another Kirsten doll with BROWN eyes. As opposed to the other Am Girl dolls I have seen, she has no eyebrows either -- the old straight or new feathered ones.
