So, I searched and most threads are a year old or more, which can be an eternity in this space. I’m thinking of changing from a local bank to AMEX for my business checking account.
I’m a home inspector and 85%+ of my transactions are credit, the rest checks with maybe 4-5 a year out of 350 clients or so paying with cash. For the last 4 years or so, I’m with a local community bank and like the fact that at least my money is being used in the community. However, they are so antiquated. From the website, to the app, and the fact that for customer service you have to call a branch or go to a branch. I was willing to overlook it so far due to their work in the community, until…
I write myself a check each month for a draw and deposit it to my personal account, as I’ve done the last 8 years or so. I also pay one vendor with a check each month, the rest are through credit cards. Due to issues with Fidelity where my wife and I’s account is suddenly holding checks for weeks due to other people committing fraud, I’m looking into adding ACH, which supposedly does not get held by Fidelity. My current business bank says their process to enable ACH is for me to come into the branch, with a printed copy of a tax return, so they can send that underwriting. Like, I’m not asking for a loan, only to send my own money using a 40+ year old process.
I have a business savings account with Live Oak, but their checking pays no interest and while I’d probably avoid it due to the balances I carry, they technically charge a monthly fee.
I have an AMEX and a Chase business credit card now. Chase is right out due to all the complaints I see people having.
So, AMEX is out there paying a little interest, no monthly fee and free ACH. Seems like a no brainer to switch. I’ll just hold the cash like I do now(my software still tracks the payment for accounting and tax purposes) and can still deposit checks using an app, and never go into a branch, just like now. I can still get checks for the one I pay per month.
Does anyone that read this far see any issues?
Seems pretty great on paper - no annual fee and 1.3% APY. Requires you have a Amex Business card, and the Amex Blue Business is no annual fee and 2% cash back. I don't really think of amex when I think of banking, so I wanted to see if anyone had first-hand experience. Thanks.

Ever since i've opened my account I have been met with nothing but technical issues.
For whatever reason, Plaid doesn't integrate with Amex business checking, this means that it won't sync with 99% of softwares out there.
After waiting endlessly, they released a *broken* Quickbooks integration. Every transaction gets imported to QBO as "Online Payment / Transfer". No description, no way to know where the money came from or was going to.... completely useless. You cant even import your transactions, only their PDF statements contain the actual statement descripors.
My business checking account doesnt even sync with BLUEPRINT (an american express software that they pushed very heavily as of late) my amex business checking transactions don't appear in my blueprint "money in / money out" stats. So I cant even get analytics on my cashflow within the AMEX ecosystem...
I created this account because of the higher APY than my capitalone business checking account, boy was that a mistake. This undercooked product has been the bane of my relationship with AMEX, and their tech team has seemingly completely neglected it. Why? How could an institution with this much popularity and history fumble a product so hard.
Looking for advice on a better business checking account to switch to, preferably with 1.4% APY, but at this point I just want something that works seamlessly and isn't a technical mess.
EDIT: Yes, I've spoken to support numerous times and raise all the issues listed. The best response I got was "Thats just how the app works right now" this was many months ago.
New LLC and deciding on where to bank. No cash transactions expected as it is a consulting company, but ACH transactions and online services are important to me. Amex is offering a SUB plus the account offers interest (low, but better than most). Chase seems like it ends up having a lot of fees. Can anyone comment on their experience with Amex Business Checking?
Spent 3-4 hours attempting to open an AMEX Business Checking account and am livid. Needing to vent and warn others considering the same thing.
My overall goal was possibly cash some some amex points in the future with a 2nd bank account in case we ever needed that option (already have Business Plat for the 1 cent per point option). Went through and logged in with my main amex account that I've had for years, filled out everything on the business checking side, was ready to click the box to accept terms and conditions > was greeted with an error on their end and to call in. Since this was done after hours last night, decided to wait until morning to attempt again. Same error, tried a different browser, incognito mode, etc, same issue. Called in again and they told me they could clear out my application on the back end and try again. Now when clicking the "apply" button, it redirected that there was a technical error and to try later. Called back and they instructed me to attempt creating a new account (DO NOT DO THIS). I was hesitant at the time and confirmed that this would be possible. They assured me and I went ahead and did that. Created a new login, new email, and processed the application. Received the approval and called in so the accounts could be merged...they directed me to call the back of my card to get this done. I did so and they had to direct me to the bank department. Explained the situation and whats going on, and ended up speaking with a manager. You guessed it...they cannot merge the accounts at all and unable to, a method to merge is nonexistent. The manager told me since it was created with a different account, they are unable to link anything and they are separate products. Was extremely upset at this point and had them close the account, they warned me in the future I wouldn't be able to create a bank account since there was a previous account active. I am beyond livid because now I'm unable to get this account the way I needed to for cashing out points or have it linked to my main membership rewards points. Her explanation was that when initially applying for the account, it links it specifically the back end (in blueprint section with your other cards) and they are unable to do that manually. I'm going to be seeking additional amex resources to report this issue so it doesn't happen to others.
TLDR: Created new account to open amex business checking > Was unable to link accounts to have it all show in one place and utilize amex rewards points
DO NOT CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT TO OPEN A BUSINESS CHECKING ACCOUNT, THEY CANNOT LINK THEM TO A CURRENT MEMBERSHIP REWARDS ACCOUNT OR LOGIN ACCOUNT
Really hate every fee for everything Regions charges me. ACH fee, low Zelle limit, etc.
Thinking of switching to Chase or Amex for business. Since my business is mainly online. However, the lack of Zelle is a bit of a bummer. The no fees on ACH transfers seem great. I send a lot of ACH transfers and a lot of Zelle payments. Probably 25k a month worth, so the fees piss me off lol. What’s everyone’s thoughts ?
only the primary account holder can have a debit card for the account
you can create sub accounts and get a debit card for those sent to someone else, but only 1 per account
you can only add “read only” users to online access, you can not grant administrative access to anyone
your personal Amex login will become permanently connected to the business account (it cannot be separated to a different login)
your personal Amex membership rewards is permanently merged with the business account
All in all, Amex’s technology is far behind what other banks are offering. If you are a sole proprietor, it may be fine. If you have anything other than that, the limitations are huge.
I called Amex and asked them questions about all of these issues and they basically told me everyone complains about these limitations, their product team is aware of them, and they are working on them - but there is no timeline.
Has there ever been a higher offer? Need to deposit 15k within 3 months. Confirmed on the phone those funds can be via ACH/wire.
I applied for an AMEX Business checking account and was denied due to having an ineligible business type (insurance agency). I'm just curious if anyone knows what type of businesses AMEX is approving. I called the number on the denial email -- the rep said she couldn't tell me what is eligible, but if I had another business I could try to reapply after 7 business days.
For those who have been approved, what types of businesses are you operating?
Is anyone here using Amex business checking for a multi-member LLC? If so, how are you and other members making it work? Upon speaking with Amex, we found out that Amex doesn’t yet have joint business checking accounts.
Amex seems closest to what we’re looking for (minimal fees, good customer service, mobile product...), but I’m having trouble confirming if it can work for our situation. We're a 2-member (50/50) LLC that will be offering consulting services. Account would be for expenses (debit cards) and ACH client payments (with invoicing via Xero).
TIA
I just got onto it again cuz they sent me an offer but most of this complaints on this sub have been resolved it seems. I left Schwab for this one. Some people will probably be here shortly to say I made a mistake but honestly now with allpoint and moneypass ATMS tho its pretty easy to find one that is free, the ones I was going to with schwab are covered now anyway. I'm sober and don't go to the strip club or the casino where Schwab really shines lol. I think I will probably be on this checking account for a long time I love being able to just swipe over and see my bank account and HYSA, the integration with the HYSA has been fixed. I haven't had any issues with Tmobile, Progressive or any of the other companies people used to complain about. There is an attitude that the checking account has not improved at all and is ignored by Amex but that doesn't seem to really be true it is getting better I expect it will shed its bad reputation.
I see on the landing page for the business checking account there is a screenshot of the Blueprint app (see attached). I can see that the business checking is advertised in the screenshot, but I'm curious what the "General Operating" account is. I was under the impression that you can only have 1 checking account with AMEX (either personal or business, not both and only one account, not multiple of one type). Does anyone know what this is? Thanks.
I've run into some problems with the American Express Business Checking you all should know about.
You cannot deposit money with your debit card.
You cannot deposit a check larger than $50,000 with the app. The only way to deposit the check is to endorse it and mail it to them using first-class mail via the US Postal Service. Considering how many checks get stolen in the mail, I'm not a fan of their methods.
There's no easy way to search transactions in their interface, you have to download your transactions and then search them.
There are other problems but you get the point. Not ready for prime time!
Anyone use Amex for their Business? Pros and cons? Or recommend banks?
I’m looking to open an account for my LLC.
Does anyone have experience with the business checking account? I have a side hustle consulting business that brings in very little and all I need is to be able to invoice my clients and have them ACH, PO or check deposit into this account. I'm planning on getting the BPP so it'd be nice to keep it all within the amex portal.
I've been scanning this sub for more info, and it seems like people are mostly down about using Amex for biz banking. Trying to understand why? I spoke with a rep to ask about our situation and it seems like it would be a smooth switch and no issues would arise, but if anyone has any info, please lmk!
This 30K SUB looks good to me and the qualifying activities are easy enough.
