The angle grinder lacks the oscillations that make a random orbit sander "random", in higher end sanders this can be a choice such as 2.5mm, 5mm, or 10mm and is in reference to the amount that the pad oscillates as it spins. An angle grinder is also likely going to run at much higher speeds possibly leading to issues with leaving an uneven finish or scratches commonly called "pigtails". So I've been serious about woodworking for about 2 years now. I've slowly been adding tools and learning to do things with the tools have. I also watch a lot of woodworking videos. There are a ton of videos (sped up) of people building things on Facebook. It finally dawned on me they were sanding their projects using angle grinders. I had bought an angle grinder years ago for a project and then never used it again. So I picked up some sanding discs and tried it on a refinishing project. Worked great! Why do I never hear anyone talk about this way of sanding? I've done a bunch of research in the last 2 years and and never heard it mentioned. How about it Redditors, who uses an angle grinder for sanding?

Typically angle grinders are more aggressive then palm/orbital sanders. For what a lot of people do it would be too aggressive for their final project or wanted finish. It’s more of an accuracy vs speed. At least imo.

August 6, 2021 - I keep the 1/16th cutoff wheels, 1/4" grinding wheels, and the sand flapper discs on hand at all times. These items are definitely a "get-what--you-pay-for" type of thing. HF is NOT a good place for them...maybe half the price, less than half the life and yours depends on it.
