Making Simple Sketches of Anime/Manga Characters for Practice
Some context: I very rarely draw things that look like anime/manga. Especially human characters. I did watch JoJo and a few less known anime recently but that’s it, I have no more knowledge about it. Please have low expectations. If you know the youtuber Pewdiepie and watched his latest video, well, that’s the reason why I decided to do this. I don’t really have much free time rn and has been exhausted in terms of drawing, so it will be very simplistic, short-time sketches. But I want to make practice out of this time. More on reddit.com
Beginner. Anime like digital art. Any tips?
well... as someone that started drawing because i wanted to draw anime i can tell you. DO NOT START drawing anime, anime is just a style. First learn proportion with body studies and then once you got the gist of it you can start taking apart the anime style, looking at how this style is different from real life, the new proportions, angles, etc. Learning to draw anatomy makes you a person that can draw any style, if you only learn to draw anime thats the only thing you can draw. its very hard to get your style if you do that. And for the brushes.. well thats up to you, what style within anime you want, even in anime there are a lot of drawing techniques like hard lines or soft lines, hard shading, soft shading, etc. More on reddit.com

Anyone know of any good tutorials to learn anime style fundamentals?
The fundamentals are pretty much the same as drawing normal faces. I'd suggest trying to get those down before trying out different art styles. More on reddit.com
How long does it take to get good at easy anime drawings?
Depends on your definition of "good" and your practice consistency. Most people see noticeable improvement after 20-30 focused drawings—not 20-30 hours, but 20-30 complete attempts. Daily practice of even 15 minutes beats occasional 3-hour sessions. I've seen beginners produce recognizable anime characters within 2 weeks of consistent practice. Within 2-3 months, you can develop a personal style. The key is finishing drawings, not perfecting them—complete ten mediocre drawings rather than one "perfect" one.

25 Easy Anime Drawings: Step-by-Step for Beginners (2026)
What's the easiest anime thing to draw for absolute beginners?
Anime eyes—specifically, a single eye in isolation. Eyes are anime's signature feature, and you can draw a convincing one in under 5 minutes once you know the structure. Start with a tall oval, add a large iris taking up about 60% of the eye, place 2-3 circular highlights in the upper portion, and add thick upper lashes. This single element looks unmistakably "anime" even without the rest of the face. Master one eye before attempting pairs—symmetry is a separate skill.

What's the difference between anime and manga drawing styles?
Technically, "manga" refers to Japanese comics (static images, often black and white with screentones) while "anime" refers to animation (moving images, full color). For drawing purposes, the styles are nearly identical—both use large expressive eyes, simplified noses, and stylized hair. The practical difference: manga drawing emphasizes strong linework and screentone shading for print reproduction, while anime-style illustration often focuses on color and rendering. As a beginner doing easy anime drawings, these distinctions don't matter—the fundamental techniques are the same.
