My Mac's power cable isn't working – Back Market - Help Center - USA
Your power adapter always comes with a detachable plug (the part with the metal prongs that go into the outlet). Try using another Apple AC plug, as the one you’re working with may be faulty. Step 3. Check the cable · The charging issue may stem from the USB-C cable.

r/UsbCHardware on Reddit: Apple 87W power adapter shows up as 60W?
July 9, 2024 -

I got my hands on an FNB58 USB tester and played it with a bunch of PD chargers. In particular, I have this 87W Apple charger for MacBooks and the tester says it's PD 2.0 60W (20V 3A). So, I'm wondering:

  • Is it a problem with my tester? I don't have a different one to verify.

  • Does Apple uses some non standard protocol between their charger and MacBooks to get 87W? But why? PD 2.0 supports up to 100W, right?

  • Does that mean I am only able to get 60W out of the charger if I use it on a non-Apple device?

Thanks.

Make sure to disconnect all other devices from the laptop in case one of them is causing a problem. Also, make sure to connect the power adapter directly to the laptop without using any adapters, docks, or hubs since they may not allow the full power of the charger to reach the laptop.

I have a MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021) and it uses a "140W USB-C Power Adapter". I have an old "87W USB-C Power Adapter". Is it safe to use the 87W power adapter for my MacBook Pro? I don't need it to charge super fast, I just don't want the MBP to blow up or something! 😀
