Cyber security at Apple?
low level security jobs at Apple, Google, or Microsoft
Do you like working in CyberSecurity for Big Tech Companies?
Does anybody else think security jobs and "moving to the field" have been overhyped online from 2020-early 2022 and now the reality hits?
You are conflating two things - skills shortage, junior positions.
The cybersecurity industry has had an issue with this for a long time. There is a severe shortage of people with the skills needed to defend an enterprise - you need a deep mix of IT knowledge and even some programming - yet for many places when they hire someone junior, they tend to leave in ~ 12 months as soon as they get a little senior - and they can do that because of the skills shortage driving up wages.
This makes companies want to hire seniors directly, because they can't retain the juniors they train... which then leaves less positions for juniors, which then leads over time to less seniors... which creates the skills shortage...
It is a vicious cycle.
More on reddit.comI've looked around Reddit and the internet in general a little bit, and I haven't been able to find any information regarding employment at Apple as a cyber security professional. Does anybody have any insight? Obviously you can find job postings on their website, but I'm looking more toward culture, job satisfaction, and what not. Most of the times when you find posts about culture it seems to be as a software engineer and nothing else.
Hello,
In order to get into a low level security job at Apple, Google, or Microsoft what should I do? Is learning web security worth it or should I stick with low level security/vulnerability research? I am interning at Amazon this summer for software engineering and am hoping my next internship is more vulnerability research/exploit dev related. Or should I get a networking certification?
