Is the one you received the same model as your existing one as the new Apple TV 4 was recently released and has quite a few new features. Do you have more than one TV? Many of us have and use more than one Apple TV in a household so you could consider doing that. If the Apple TV was purchased at an Apple Store, they have a policy to allow you to return it as a gift without receipt. Since it was a gift you might not know where it was purchased. As part of the Apple policy you can enter the serial number on the Apple website to check if it is eligible for return. I'm being given it without any kind of gift receipt and I plan to not open it so it'll be sealed. I know I can probably sell it for $1100 on Craigslist or Facebook but I'm wondering if I can just return it to Walmart/Target/Apple/BestBuy for store credit with no receipt but sealed?

I work the service desk at Target. I’ll tell you right now that no major retailer is gonna let you return a $1000+ laptop with no receipt for store credit. Target doesn’t even sell MacBooks and I doubt Walmart does too. At least at target you can no receipt return up to 100 dollars worth per year. Idk what the Apple Stores policy is but I imagine they won’t let you either.
