r/YoutubeMusic on Reddit: YT Music Vs. Apple Music Vs. Spotify
April 10, 2021 -

I’ve been using YT music since 2018 and for the past few months I’ve been messing around with different streaming apps and now im using Apple Music up until a few months ago. I don’t know if I made the right choice but I’m enjoying Apple Music as of right now. The biggest factor thats going to keep me from switching permanently is that with YT Music you can do more than just download music, you can download videos as well and old tracks you can’t find on Apple Music or Spotify. There’s about 300 songs I have on My YT Music library i can’t find on Apple Music or even Spotify. YT Music is slightly louder and you can tell the difference but Apples Lossless takes the cake, Spotify has HiFi and YT Music doesn’t have anything special just the regular high medium and low audio quality. The main problem that made me switch to Apple Music was with YTM Shuffling. Regardless if i was playing my downloaded songs or a regular playlist, it would be under “queue” and after about 20 songs I would have to restart my playlist, every single time which got really annoying, a really horrible update. Spotify I just never got into, I didn’t feel like I should waste my time building a library on there. Spotify is the type that if you don’t have some type of library built, it ain’t worth it and should build with Apple Music or YTM instead. On YTM I have 4,000+ songs and on Apple Music I have about around 1,500.

YouTube Music vs. Spotify vs. Apple Music

I use Apple Music because I am able to upload my existing library that I have built up over decades. I also love using Siri to control it in the car. I have YouTube music as part of my YouTube premium subscription. I mostly use it for live, promotional performances (like KEXP), and obscure out of print titles. I’m listening to more Indian classical music these days and YT Music gives me access to stuff that just isn’t available on the regular streaming services.

People complain about YouTube music having lots of non album versions of songs but I consider it a major benefit if the service.

Stuck Between Apple Music and YouTube Music — Which One Should I Keep?
Are you using YouTube Premium as well? I had the same decision last year, I was trialing both and I decide that as free YouTube out weighed how much I loved the Apple Music app itself. YouTube Music was 90% as good as Apple Music for me so I stuck with YouTube Music and ad free YouTube. More on reddit.com

YT Music vs Apple Music
I really enjoy being able to listen to music on YT that’s not available anywhere else, and it’s no additional cost for me because I also have YouTube premium. However, Apple Music allows searching within playlists, allows a separate podcast experience with the IOS podcast app, and also it’s very frustrating how my music playlists appear on my regular YouTube when I’d prefer they stay separate More on reddit.com

Is YT premium is better than Apple Music? I am using Apple music from past 3 years!
IMO it depends. Personally, I use it because I pay For YouTube premium and YT Music comes with it. Don't really feel like paying another subscription for a different service. If you have YT premium, you could give it a go, as there is no loss in trying. As it is with most things, there are positives and negatives. I really like how synced it is with YT in general. I like a song on YT and can immediately add it to my playlist, no need to switch apps or anything. Also, there is a ton of music available. Though, maybe someone with more experience with Apple Music can give you a better recommendation. More on reddit.com

How do I listen to free music?
Most of the streaming music services offer free tiers -- including Spotify, Pandora, Amazon and YouTube -- but they do come with a couple of caveats. First, these are usually playlist services, in which you can pick a song and the rest of the tunes auto-generate -- you can't pick exactly what you want to play. The other potential downside is that they come with ads, and sometimes it's the same ad for every break.

Which music streaming service has the biggest catalog?
At the time of writing, all of the services offer at least 100 million tracks each -- while Deezer says it has 120 million -- but that's not the end of the story. The number of songs offered by a music service used to be the main differentiator, but as always, it's quality over quantity that counts -- and particularly if you're looking for more obscure tracks. Depending on your favorite genre, some of the services may offer a better catalog for under-the-radar (Spotify), indie (Apple) or hip-hop artists (Tidal). Users who are less ambitious about expanding their musical taste should be satisfi

Do I need spatial or Atmos audio?
The short answer is "no" and the long answer is "sort of, maybe." Stereo music has been around since the 1950s and its worldwide catalog simply dwarfs the amount of Atmos audio tracks by comparison. Apple may rave about how "magical" spatial music is, but unless you have an expensive Dolby Atmos system, you may not be able to hear the differences anyway. In our own tests, we've found that a well-mixed Atmos track on a dedicated setup can be fun. It's like a roller coaster -- enjoyable, but you wouldn't want to use it as your sole form of transport. However spatial audio does make sense if you'

YouTube Music vs. YouTube Premium | Tom's Guide
August 8, 2019 - Spotify isn't called out by name in the blog post announcing YouTube Music, but the post emphasized that this new service means you can get all your music (i.e. YouTube videos and streaming songs) from the same place. This points out how Spotify and Apple Music have both yet to really nail music videos, and that YouTube is still the premiere destination for that content. YouTube Red, seen here, will rebrand to YouTube Premium.

Youtube Music in its current state is rough, but has room for improvement. I've been a GPM user for years and while not super thrilled about everything being phased over to YTM, it has the potential to be great. Google's track record isn't fantastic with new products and getting rid of old ones, but I'm going to be optimistic about it going over to Youtube Music. Additionally, YTM will offer GPM's personal library uploading and playback, which is really useful for a lot of people who have large collections of purchased music they'd like to play on their phone.

Given that YTM is still "in the works" for the most part, it's hard to compare to Spotify or Apple, which are more polished products. But here's how I'd break it down:

Spotify has a great social aspect for people that want that, and it works well. Their Discover Weekly playlist is apparently great and gets better the more you use the service. Spotify is compatible with just about any device, and their desktop app and web player are well done. They have daily mixes made for you based on your music tastes, which are nice. Overall Spotify is a great service. I think a common complaint is that their mobile app is "meh" at best (to me), and very dark.

Apple Music, on the other hand, is very white. It has a very clean, Apple aesthetic which some people have come to love. Comparable music library to Spotify, GPM, etc. It's absolutely geared toward the Apple Crowd, and while there is an Android App, it's not great. If you're already invested in the Apple ecosystem, Apple Music is probably going to be your best choice. If you're on Android, it's a hard sell. From a purely aesthetic standpoint, the app is well done. There is no official web player unless you have iTunes installed on your computer, which may be limiting to people.

It's hard to say much negative about any of these products, since you can get unlimited music at your fingertips for $10/month. And that's fantastic. It really comes down to "different strokes for different folks," and most of them have at least a 30 day free trial if you want to check them all out and see which one you like best.

January 6, 2023 - That’s why Apple Music and Spotify supply their subscribers with daily playlists of new releases and deep tracks to help discover new music and dig through the immense catalog of songs. Google will be doing something similar with its own awesome AI, but there’s a twist. March 13, 2025 - YouTube Music Premium thus competes directly with Amazon Music, which also offers a subscription coupled with Amazon Prime. Given the number of users, this commercial strategy is clearly bearing fruit. Other services such as Spotify, Deezer, TIDAL, or Qobuz cannot offer the same type of subscription, and this is likely to penalize them. Apple Music is in the same situation as the above-mentioned platforms.
