Firmware probably wouldn't fix a boot failure that happens out of the blue that clearing the CMOS wouldn't fix. The good news is that the board has a recovery firmware image normally (Q-LED code F0 through F4 for the BIOS attempting to use the recovery image). The LED you are talking is the Flashback LED (in between the Flashback button and the USB port) or the Q-LED (which displays the code and is located below the bottom most long PCIE x16 slot)? What I hope is happening is that you didn't unzip the firmware on the USB and it hasn't actually started flashing the BIOS. What you are supposed to do is unzip the file and either run the BIOSRenamer.exe file OR manually rename the .cap file to SX570EG.CAP on your USB stick. You then put your USB stick into the Flashback USB port (the very bottom one) and then press and hold the Flashback button for 3 seconds. Once the LED flashes 3 times and then starts flashing the BIOS. If you didn't rename the file, then I'd probably power it off since it has been roughly an hour, rename the file, clear the CMOS which will reset BIOS settings to the defaults and try to flash again. Though flashing the CMOS is optional and isn't always required, I definitely recommend it. You can clear the CMOS by completely powering down the PC, unplugging it and waiting about 10 seconds. All of the LED's should be off at this point and capacitors discharge. Now locate the CLRTC jumper pins (should be just 2 pins) located to the right of the bottom long PCIE x16 slot, left of the SATA connectors, Below the M.2 slot and above the RGB_HEAD2 pins. Apparently ASUS didn't make this a 3 pin with a jumper just sitting there for you to use, so you'll have to use something like a screw driver and lightly touch it between both pins at the same time (no pressure needed, it just needs to touch both) for a second. Now remove the screw driver and plug the cord back in try to do the Flashback process again. There is a CMOS battery, after powering down, that you can pop out to do the same thing but I wouldn't recommend it since the cradles can sometimes break easily when trying to get the battery out and the only way to fix that is to re-solder it back into place. Plus it is between the top two PCIE x16 slots and probably inconveniently under your GPU. IF your BIOS flashes and comes back up, it may still fail to boot due to the original problem. If that happens, find your Q-LED display (not the Flashback LED) and check the Q-Code table in the appendix of your motherboard manual to figure out why it is failing POST. Hopefully it is just 50 up to 55 and you just need to reseat your RAM sticks. You can also follow the POST process as it does its different test by watching the codes progress. According to quick googling, solid light means the process didn't start or failed. It should blink and then turn off if it's successful. Try again and if it doesn't work, check the USB if it's formatted correctly and the bios file is renamed.

I have Asus X-570 E-Gaming. The mobo was showing green Q-LED today, I came to know it's because of failed boot. So, I'm updating the BIOS(firmware or host boot software). The size of the flash file is 32 MiB and the flash drive used is 2.0 one. It's been 22 min now and the green LED(which indicates the BIOS is being flashed) still hasn't gone off, and now I'm worried. What to do?

3-5 minutes in my experience. I've also had a BIOS flash seem like it was taking way too long. And it wasn't going to finish. It wouldn't boot. So I did clear CMOS and retried the flash. It worked the 2nd time. Gigabyte B550 Aorus Pro for reference.

It’s been 2 hours since I started the BIOS flashback. It’s just been blinking this whole time. No feedback on the monitors; no indication of failure or success. I think I may have formatted my thumb drive incorrectly, but shouldn’t that give me a failure? How long should I let this continue for? How can I safely stop it?! Here’s a little video.

The board is a ROG crosshair viii dark hero.

SOLVED: I got on tech support with ASUS and they told me to press the cmos reset button, so I did that, redid the flash correctly, then after some bios settings, I'm back in Windows. Phew! If you're thinking of doing a bios flash and you're in windows, USE THE EZ FLASH THING! This sucked! <3

Usually its done in 10 minutes,and flashing rapidly, usb stick must be mbr and fat32,and bios renamed

LOL definitely something went wrong. I'd say reboot and flash again. As long as you know the flash isn't corrupt, in which case download a fresh copy.

This happened to me before and got scared that i bricked the mobo. But since it is taking too long like 1 hour or so i decided to just reboot the pc forcefully and it works, maybe something is stuck with the process so it does not go thru to the updating the bios yet and it just go to a black screen that is frozen. I hope that is the case for you as well though.

What does formatted to mbr mean? The flashback device should be formatted with the FAT32 file system. The BIOS file should be renamed from whatever it was called when you unzipped the downloadable package from the ASUS support page in the form of xxxxx.CAP where the "x" should be replaced with the model of your motherboard (Your model model number is A5563 so the filename for the BIOS will be A5563.CAP. If you run Windows it is highly desirable to use the renamer utility that comes in the downloadable package, but this is not available if the host machine will not boot. The renamed .cap file should be the only file on the USB storage device. Power the machine down, wait about 10 minutes. Disconnect any USB attached peripheral devices not required to boot the machine (you need a keyboard). Do not power the machine back on. Insert the storage device with the renamed BIOS file in the correct USB port (it's marked on the back panel) and press and hold the flashback button until the green LED flashes three times. The green LED will flash at various frequencies whilst the update proceeds. Wait until the green LED goes out. It can take awhile. I've had flashbacks that needed 20 minutes or more. When the LED goes out, remove the storage device and then power the machine up as normal. The first boot after a flashback will take a long time as the machine goes through a BIOS updating phase, then a long POST while memory training routine runs. You should boot to the BIOS setup page (you will see "press F1 to continue"). When in the BIOS setup, navigate to the exit menu, select "load optimized defaults" and then save and exit. The machine will reboot. When POST completes reenter the BIOS setup and make any changes required by your configuration. Make sure the correct boot device is selected in the #1 position of the boot priority settings. Save and exit. The machine should boot to your desired operating system. Check critical functions, then reconnect (one at a time) any USB peripheral devices you disconnected earlier and you should be off and running. Make sure you install any updated chipset drivers, video drivers and other firmware to their latest versions.

I recently bought an Asus tuf gaming b550-plus wifi and need to do a bios Flashback. The green light has now been flashing consistently for 30 minutes and looking online it seems it shouldn't take much more than 5. The motherboard currently has everything other than the GPU in it and I think it may have been flashing immediately once power was given to the motherboard. How can I safely stop the bios flashback and how can I do it again to avoid the problem?

The flashing light is actually supposed to be red. B550F rog strix gaming led is red, both are Asus boards, so I don't see why Tuf flashing Led would be green. In any case, constant green Led means bios flashback error. As others have said, thee is no "safe way" to stop the bios flashback. Make sure you put the bios file renamed GB550PW.CAP (case sensitive). into a usb key formatted to fat32. put GB550PW.CAP into the root directory. Just flash it again and again. The Led (red) should flash and then go away, with the system automatically restarting. Someone who used MSI boards flashed his board 20 times until it worked. Or you just got a dud board.

So i have a PROART Z790-CREATOR WIFI MBO, assembled the PC myself, worked like a glove for year and a half.. Now, soon as it's turned off, cannot power it back again normally, since it behaves like the button is pressed. It's not, it's installed properly, nothing is pressing it etc.
I can turn it on, but it's a hussle, plugging it out of power, and plugging back...
Thing is, if i return the board, it can take MONTHS untill i get it back. And i do not have budget for that.
Is there any way to disable the bios flashback optin in bios?

The internet is full of people having this exact issue with different ASUS boards, most of them being around 18 months old, exactly like mine. I haven't managed to fix it either, and I don't want to RMA it either. ASUS is just ignoring us as usual. We should probably contact Gamers Nexus about this absolute shambles, there's no way al these boards are behaving like this exactly at the same time.

Are you using the correct usb port? I literally made this mistake by watching a video on how to do it that had the usb port right under the button while on my motherboard its on the bottom side. I was so sure im doing it correctly, but a good nights sleep made me check it again, lol.

Flashed my Asrock X870 within the Bios some days ago - took really long. (way longer than on my old X570). So if the Bios Flashback circuit only writes with 20 kb/s it would take 20 minutes (I dont know how fast this really is, but writing on an EEPROM is not fast) Personally I would recommend to flash a Bios within the UEFI and only use Flashback, if really necessary.

AM5 boards all require them to include a way to flash the bios without a CPU or even a working bios,. So you can just plug the flashdrive into the dedicated USB slot and press and hold the button for x amount of time. It depends on the board, just check your manual for how many seconds to hold it for.

Great, good to know. My question is, can I take out the USB Drive that is plugged in right now that I tried these steps on? The solid green light is on, and I'm wondering if I can just pull it out without causing any damage to the motherboard. Pretty sure a solid light means the procedure didn't start. The light should be OFF when it's done. You can shutdown the system. It's fine. The BIOS flashback didn't work or should I say didn't start.

hello, I have the b550 a pro motherboard, and I have completely built up my system, I tried to run it and it didn't post which I expected because I am using a ryzen 5 5600x proccessor which needs a bios update. I installed the bios file from msi's official site and I have renamed it to MSI.ROM. I put the flashstick in the correct usb slot, pressed the BIOS button, the red light started flashing and fans started spinning, I waited 10 minutes still flashing, waited 20 minutes still flashing, waited a hour still flashing. I read some things online and people suggest to reset cmos battery which I did after stopping the flash. After I resetted the cmos, than started the BIOS flashback again. It was getting late at night and I decided to sleep while it is still flashing hoping it will end by the time I wake up, I was wrong it still was flashing when I woke up. any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I hope I haven't bricked my motherboard by accident.

UPDATE: I feel soo so dumb after finding out the problem, the problem was the 8 pin cpu connector wasn't fully connected into my modular power supply, if you have bios flashback problems be sure to check connectors if they are plugged in fully or not.

Have a Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Hero Wifi 6 X570. Upgraded to a Ryzen 5900 and NEED to use the flashback to update Bios to the latest. Previous cpu is dead so not an option. Followed the steps to the T. FAT32 file system with the C8H.CAP file renamed and plugged to the USB port labeled bios and pressed the button while PSU is on but system is OFF. I've tried every USB type their is, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, etc. Nothing is working. Formatted to FAT32. Nothing. Removed the CPU completely as to avoid the USB bug that exists with it. NOTHING. The most I get with it is three blinks and a solid blue light that stays on until the end of time. Put cpu back in everytime to test if it worked just for giggles ans I still get an 0d code.
