I’ll be following this thread also…I’m doing a lot of research and I’ve decided the bedding industry is the absolute worst of all time. You can go down a 5 hour rabbit hole and still have no clue. With that stand I’ve found out a few things. Top 2 bedding materials are LONG STAPLE cotton in either a percale or sateen weave. Or high quality linen. Percale is more breathable and a more relaxed look. Sateen cotton is more “crisp” and has a cozier feel but doesn’t breath as well. Linen used to be something that lasts generations but now it seems all brands don’t last all that long unfortunately. Linen wrinkles and gives off a very “lived in” vibe. It’s the best for hot sleepers and starts off kinda rough but gets softer over time to become incredibly soft. It’s also more expensive and while I wouldn’t made the extra cost if it lasted as long as they advertise I don’t think any of the sheet brands do because they make them thinner and prewash this with different chemicals to make them comfortable right out of the bag. I’ve seen a ton of reviews for the most popular brand (brooklinen, parachute, west elm, RH, etc) all give out after 2-4 years. For long staple cotton the brand I’ve decided I’m going to go with after all my research is Boll and Branch. They have Sateen and Percale weaves. No clue if they are the best but based on reviews and such they look solid. For Linen the brand that seems to stand out amongst the rest is Linoto. Their linen is supposedly much thicker than other brands with users reportedly going on 5+ years on the same sheets with no signs of wearing yet. The caveat is they take a few months of use and washes before they become soft and comfortable. This is the trade off with linen. Want durability? Then give up comfort right out of the bag. The other option for linen I have seen if buying a set on Etsy from sellers in Lithuania as they make the best linen in the world apparently . I personally will avoid this option just because I’d rather order from a reputable brand for my first time luxury bedding option.

So after searching reddit and the rest of the internet for the past 4 hours I am SO CONFUSED on which bed sheets we should get. We just upgraded to a king size mattress and want to get good quality sheets that wont cost a mortgage payment. My boyfriend tends to heat up really quickly at night and therefore makes both of us sweat a lot. I wash our sheets once a week to keep them clean and also help with the acne situation.

Looking for some brand recommendations that are short sweet and to the point.

UPDATE: its been about three weeks with the quince sheets and I love them! I am a little upset with the down I purchased. They stated that it was temperature regulating (so make you feel cool when hot and vice versa) but it does not. Its really just a warm blanket. Other than that I am very happy with them!

Someone once told me "never go cheap on anything that goes between you and the ground" and through life experience I eventually realized it was actually some of the best advice I ever got. These days I always get the most expensive beds, sheets, shoes, car tires, and chairs I can afford :-) I never worry about brand of sheets... as long as it's Egyptian cotton with a 500 or more thread count, you're pretty much golden.

Long staple percale cotton. I’ve tried everything - linen and bamboo included. Many brands of percale sheets are nice - my current favorite are from snowe but I’ve heard they’ve changed suppliers.

You have not gotten any purchase advice here so far and that makes me sad. Percale is the strongest weave. This is the weave and is agnostic of the brand. Linen or long staple cotton are the strongest materials. What is long staple cotton? I will declare it like Michael Scott: Egyptian cotton, Supima cotton and Pima cotton are the terms generally used unless it generically states, "long staple cotton". If you don't see these words, it is not long staple cotton. These are the materials and are agnostic of the brand. You should give zero damns as to the thread count, if applicable, on any sheets as its a red herring that means zero. Same with the term organic, it bears no role in the conversation.

I used to go to any department store and buy good quality cotton sheets. Smooth, thick, buttery soft cotton for a reasonable price (max $200). Now they don’t seem to exist anywhere. Everything is rough and scratchy, or so thin I can see through them. What happened? What changed? I would love recommendations but please don’t mention Company Store, Lands End, or Brooklinen. The first two have declined in quality and Brooklinen is awful.

Here is the ultimate advice when it comes to sheets. Stay away from bamboo or silk and especially stay away from polyester. In general, try to stay away from anything synthetic. Linen can be good but I personally hate the feel as do most. It’s usually not soft at all when you first get it and takes a long time. Go with 100% high quality cotton and get a Percale weave if you prioritize breathability or a Sateen weave If you prefer a soft and silky feel. Both are great, percale can still be soft and sateen can still breathe. Everything’s relative. You may be asking what is a high quality cotton? It’s anything classified as being long or extra long staple cotton. The best cottons in the world include Giza 45 or Sea Island cotton. They’re also extremely expensive. My pillowcases made of Giza 45 Luxe from Sferra cost $400 each. That’s their top range and is obviously not practical or necessary in order to have a comfortable sleep. Buy the most expensive sheets you can afford. You’ll be happy you did. MOST IMPORTANT rule about sheets are the quality of the material and to find that, you need to shop at trusted brands. If you’re willing to spend on something good, go for the brands Frette, Sferra, Letto, Schlossberg, St. Genève or Matouk. The more you spend the better it’ll be. They all have entry level sheets that are still great compared to 99% of what’s out there. Don’t worry about thread count as most companies artificially inflate the number using a variety of methods.

I agree, quality has gone down so much across all of textiles. Doesn’t even matter if we talk hiking pants, linen or fashion. Everything is made cheaper to increase the profit margin and some lame manager gets a pat on the back. Anyway, I like my cariloha sheets, and bamboo bay. Both are soft and thick. Cariloha got the edge but is also a good bit more expensive. I got ettitude and they are nice too but much thinner. Not quite super cheap thin but thinner than the other ones. Otherwise I just order and return from Amazon. I got one cotton sheet that was nice but that’s been a few years now and there is no guarantee the quality is the same. I ordered the same brand a couple years ago in a different color and it’s not as nice. So I don’t even want to recommend them.

It seems like everything is so heavily marketed and influenced. Has anyone recently bought sheets that they believe are truly high quality? Looking for very smooth percale sheets if possible.

I’ve gone through a few brands:

The Company Store: They recently sold to Home Depot. People say quality has now gone down hill. The customer service email on their website is even down. Looks like they’re still in transition to Home Depot customer service.
Brooklinen: instagram brand and poor quality
Red Land Cotton: Very rough, not a whole lot of options. Poor customer service and return policy.

Company I have tried and likes

LL Bean - I had these for about 4 years before they ripped. I like these more than anything I’ve tried.
Parachute - got these after LL Bean sheets ripped. Nothing special about them.

Company I still need to try:

Coyuchi - high reviews and they are the sheets sold at the high end mattress store near my house.

I searched this question and I am posting the top answer in one of the posts: $75 isn't much of a sheet budget to be honest. Especially if you are going for buy it for life status with the best comfort. It just wont happen. Some people say look at thread count but that doesn't give any indicator since manufactures started counting individual plies (the tiny fiber that makes a single thread) triple and quadrupling numbers. Some people say look at Egyptian cotton, this is just as big a scam as thread count. It doesn't actually mean anything. Long ago it used to since Egyptian cotton had a longer staple but today its just a marketing word that means very little. All in all you need to look at material/weave and price. Cotton is great if you want some crisper sheets, decently durable. 100% cotton is gonna wrinkle like crazy though. Silk is nice in that it is supremely smooth, but it traps heat and is really slippery, I personally don't like that feeling but you may(not in your current budget) Bamboo(rayon, viscose bamboo) is a synthetic that is really soft feeling and smooth. A very good in between to cotton and silk but its not durable. If you like really nice sheets but don't mind replacing them every 5 years go with these. (again, not in your current budget, dont buy the cheap ones, terrible) Linen is great if your going for buy it for life status, its robust and becomes softer with every wash. Only downside is, is that its not that soft and smooth but I find linen to be nice and cool. Its expensive, again not it your current budget but you can actually buy used for this since its bifl Microfiber also like bamboo in its softness but its even worse in the durability dept. You can buy cheap ones but you'll be replacing often. I also find they trap heat. Jersey cotton, its T-shirt fabric. IF your into that go to target and drop $15 on them. I dont recommend this because I am not a barbarian but some people like it. You'll be replacing these every year. Honestly that's pretty much it, i'm sorry to say but you can't get truly good sheets on a relatively low budget. Once you get around 130-260 your gonna find some good ones, I wouldn't pay more than that. After that its just name brand. high‑quality sheets come down to three things: fiber, weave, and budget. thread count isn’t the magic number it’s made out to be. anything much above 400 is usually marketing, with manufacturers counting plies to inflate the number. egyptian cotton used to mean long‑staple fibers that were smoother and stronger, but now it’s mostly a label slapped on average cotton. weave makes a big difference. percale is crisp and cool, great for a fresh feel. sateen is smoother, has more sheen, and runs warmer. both can be excellent when the base cotton is good. fiber types have their own personalities. 100% cotton is breathable and durable but will wrinkle. linen is pricey, starts out textured, and softens beautifully over time while lasting decades. bamboo/viscose feels silky but the fibers wear out faster. microfiber is inexpensive and soft but traps heat and breaks down quickly. for long‑lasting sheets, aim for long‑staple cotton like pima or supima in a percale or sateen weave, around 300–500 thread count. something like the threadmill 800tc sateen set uses quality cotton, solid stitching, and avoids blended fibers. budget around $120–$200 for a set that will hold up for years. cheaper sheets may feel nice at first but tend to pill, fade, or lose smoothness within a year or two. better ones actually improve with washing and can easily last a decade or more.

I bought several sets of pillow cases from recommended sheet sets but they all felt like sandpaper. My old sheets feel so much softer. I also followed recommendations online to wash them like 20 times with baking soda, vinegar, etc and nothing helped. I'm not sure if I want percale or sateen, all I know is I want something that's soft. Do I need to buy the super expensive sets?

Which brands did you get, just out of curiosity? Also: Do you happen to have a specialty linen store near you by chance? It really helps, imo, to have one to see what the higher-end lines are capable of and also helps to give a really good barometer against lower-quality lines. If you're looking for super-soft options then sateen weave is what you're going to want, though it won't be as cooling as percale weave. Personally I adore my Peacock Alley Soprano set (it's pretty lightweight and soft as butter) but it's pretty expensive. Most of the higher-end brands like Matouk, Sferra, SDH and Frette will have pretty awesome sets but for a really nice set it'll be around $500 to start. You can also go with bamboo since it is definitely soft but it has a silky-feeling that I don't really like compared to high-quality cotton but it is definitely much cheaper. Hi everyone!

I am in search of a unicorn! About 10-15 years ago stores stopped making quality sheets. Every sheet set I’ve bought has been thin and lasted only a year or so. I recently found a bottom sheet stored away from my grandmother. It was very heavy and thick cotton. The label said it was from kohls. She died about 10 years ago so I’m guessing the sheets are from 10-15 years prior. They are the thickness of 2-3 modern sheets. I am happy to spend a few hundred dollars on sheet sets.

Honestly I get mine used from estate sales and yard sales. If the home belongs to an elderly person they usually have a good stash of sheets nicer than anything available for sale now. Hot water wash with disinfectant and you’re golden.

I just bought a set from American Blossom Linens and part of my criteria was that they were thick. They advertise them as being "crisp, thick, and heavy". I'm still waiting to receive them but I can let you know! They're $$$ but do have a 2 year return policy.

i have used charter club damask, just ok a bit silkier today than the past, hotel collection supima 680 thread count, use those in winter - live in florida. bought a new set for split king for sleep number bed as one of the twin XL ripped. missed return window. hoping they are the same. currently using sleep number supima cotton sheet set. love these sheets although purchased 2 years ago. are they the same today?

need a new set for guest room. wanted to try looking something new. never used cotton/percale. concerned about 5-40 washes until they feel is soft & enjoyable.

i have read and re-read thru numerous postings here on reddit & other bed sheet sites & retailers. never sure if i am reading a true review or a sales pitch.

bought a set of linen sheets from sam’s club that arrive today, read some good reviews and great return policy.

id like more than 7 days to try out sheets.

read about threshold, casaluna, hudson park silk cotton from bloomingdales, kirkland 680 thread-count, pact, ralph lauren 464-thread-count organic cotton percale, Coyuchi, morrow, parachute, bed threads and the list goes on.

another thing i keep reading that fabrics are not the same as 1-2 years ago. trial and error i guess.

white king w/standard cases. do not use king pillows.

what are you sleeping on & or have slept on that you love in a soft cotton? & why?

Thomas Lee percale sheets. Yes they are a little more expensive but so worth it (as someone who has spent more than a thousand dollars over the years trying nearly every sheet recommended on this sub and returning them). These are the only sheets I’m using from now on. They are actually soft which is hard to come by in Percale sheets around $200-$300.

I recently bought the 100% cotton, 1,000 thread count sheets from Target and couldn't be any happier. They're soft, extremely thick, very high quality.

Even after reading about it, i have little idea of how each material would feel. I have always used the cheapest stuff available. Needs to be machine-washable. I want something soft. I don't mind a break in period. Budget is 100-250usd, if it's durable.

I personally avoid Amazon for bedsheets

Does anyone have recommendations for cotton sheets and comforters that aren’t outrageously priced?

I've been happy with Targets cotton sheets, I have a set that are 6 years old. Good condition, no piling. I have bought two more sets recently and one set is piling a lot sooner than expected. For duvets, I just bought my second one of these https://a.co/d/iZpAp8g I also bought these as flat sheets to use on my couch instead of a microfiber cover, and I've been happy with it. The first duvet I bought in like Feb 2023? And it has held up great. I wanted a second so I'd have a clean spare, or a nice blanket in the spare bed. We're expecting baby 2 and anticipating sleeping in two different beds so I wanted both beds to be delightful not one being the crappy floor bed in the nursery.

I like the Simply Vera Wang Egyptian cotton sheets from Kohl’s. I got them on sale and they’re excellent quality.

I am searching for the perfect sheets that are worth their price. Also, I'm not looking to spend $500 for a set. What are your favorite cotton sheets? I prefer sheets that feel thick and durable (definitely not see-through), very soft, and that don't get too wrinkled when washed.

You can’t beat quality just get something like Red Land Cotton. The feel is way different than cheaper sheets and they’ll last for years. Look for sales. I have a set of sheets from them along with a blanket and quilt. I’m looking at getting 1 more sheet set or two. Considering getting a duvet as well just not sure what to buy to put inside it. Laying on my red land cotton sheets is a totally luxury compared to my cheaper sheets.

Just following up to another user that asked about good Duvets my wife and I are looking for a high end set of king size sheets. Duvet cover, fitted, pillow cases, etc. We bought the 600 thread count ones from Costco and they are nice but we want one set of expensive high thread count sheets

I have no recommendation but I do have a very important counter point to wanting high thread count sheets. Thread count is only PART of getting high quality sheets. Materials matter just as much. Linen sheets as an example rarely have a super high thread count because of the nature of linen threads. But despite this lots of linen sheets end up high on the list of best overall quality sheets. As well you need to consider how hot/cold you get. Higher thread count means that air flow is restricted and can lead to hotter sleeping. I never sleep on high thread count sheets cause they always make me overheat. My fav sheets are Oxford cotton shirting and they are so crisp and cool. I also have some Canadian made linen ones which I can check the brand of. My only complaint with them if that I sometimes find them a bit itchy the first night after they get put on the bed post washing until they soften up a bit. But they are also super light and cool.

I really like Skylark+Owl Linen Co. based in Edmonton AB they don’t have a thread count that high, but that’s because generally high thread counts are misleading and lower quality. They have a blog about it somewhere in their site. I have the linen, percale and washed percale sheet sets, I use the linen 90% of the time because I love it but I do use them all. Their customer service team is great at helping you find the right set based on your sleep needs

does anyone have recommendations for super soft and buttery smooth cotton sheet sets? any type of cotton, as long as there is no scratchiness to them, where it's like you can feel the fibre. i am very picky with bedsheets. the ultimate test is when you rub the pillowcase on your face, if i can feel any roughness/texture i hate it.

for context - approx 10 years ago i discovered KAS sheets and straight from the packet they were so soft and smooth, never had any roughnness/scratchy/itchiness to them at all. and today those sets are just so buttery soft (although my fitted sheets did rip after about 8 years, but i've kept the pillowcases).

about 5 years ago i bought new KAS sheets and they were immediately noticeably different and much worse quality. they took FOREVER to soften and smooth out but they are ok now, stupidly i bought another set 2 years ago and they're still rough, they have not softened as much as the set 3 years prior, so seemingly went even further downhill.

i didn't mind the sheridan 400tc from their outlet (they do take a little while to smooth out and they're not as good as the OG kas), but they've discontinued that range and the 500tc is not as nice feeling and too thick (of course!).

on the main sheridan site, the 375tc are horrendous and the 500tc are far too crisp and not very smooth anyway.

i've tried heritage from myer and they aren't very soft/smooth, they pilled after a couple washes also.

sheet society were even worse than kas ones i bought 5 years ago, but i think they ended up softening more than KAS did, but they're still not as good as OG KAS.

basically, i want a sheet set in the quality that KAS use to be, anyone know of any? it's just disappointing because the OG kas spoiled me and now it seems like i can never find that level of comfort again!
