January 3, 2011 - There's one called simply "Ruler" (by Babak Mozaffari) that puts a straight ruler on the screen, lets you reverse the colors (white on black), adds a backlight if you're trying to trace something, or lets you put a circle (you specify the diameter) on the screen. There's even a calibration mode so you can be sure the one on your screen is fairly accurate, and a metric mode. It's free and it works well.

I'm looking for an AR app to measure objects and spaces using the phone's camera, but it must be completely free, without strong limitations or features locked behind a paywall.
I've tried AR Ruler and AR Plan 3D, but their free versions are quite limited and push too hard for a subscription. Does anyone know an alternative that actually works well and doesn't have these restrictions? I'd love to hear your experience.

The problem with Android is that there are so many devices out there with different hardware features. I think AR is one such niche. There were a lot of Google AI apps earlier, but accuracy will always differ from one device to another. I think many got abandoned over time. There are free iOS apps that are maintained by Apple that can do AR, and with devices that have Lidar, it is very accurate! Maybe tough to find a fully free app maintained well in Android just because of the sheer effort it takes to maintain something like that and Android users being typically diverse

This is an app best used with solid angle items, like boxed packages for mailing, picture framing etc. avoid curved or funky shaped items. Those would be better measured with a soft measuring tape, like the ones used to measure your waist, etc. Kind of bare-bones app but it’s free.

Hi all,
As the title suggests, I'm looking for a realiable ruler / (tape) measuring app for Android. I remember back in the day Google used to have AR Ruler app but that seems to have been taken off the play store.
Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

For small measurements I like this app - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.nixgame.ruler I used to have an app for larger measurements too that used the phones accelerometer to measure the distance rather than unreliable AR but I can't find it. If I do I'll reply to this comment with the link.
