Hi. I'm fourteen, and use a computer to watch videos, google stuff, and do other things like that. I want to get a laptop that's strong enough to run games, like Roblox. It doesn't need to be super big, or fancy. Preferably on the cheaper side.
My current conputer is a Dell Latitude 3150, if it helps. I've had it for like five years and it's borderline unuseable

This month's update includes the best general use laptops that are available currently, including new laptops with 13th Gen Intel and Ryzen 7000 series! Be sure to ask questions about your next laptop purchase!
My best gaming laptops list was last month. This time, I have an updated version of my general list of good general use options. If you are looking for a gaming laptop list instead, please click here to view my list from June 2023!
As a reminder, this list isn't a definitive list to determine what you should get. It should give you an overall idea of what you should be able to expect in a given price range. If you have any questions about anything listed here, let me know, I will assist you!
Here is a general list for options that are good for general use.
General use applies to anyone who streams videos or movies, browses the Internet, does school work, does music production, etc. This list also has options that are good for light gaming.
If you're looking for a specific laptop recommendation, considering making a request in the pinned weekly request thread.
Here is a small guide for searching for a good general use laptop.
Look for a decent processor! For general use, you will likely want at least an i3 or Ryzen 3 processor for smooth performance. Big into multitasking? Then, go for at least an i5 or Ryzen 5 processor. It is important to note that Intel's 13th gen CPUs are superior to AMD CPUs in single-core and multi-core performance. Here, I have organized the CPUs into general categories (generally in performance order):
Low-End CPUs: Celeron N4020, Pentium Silver N6000, i3-1115G4
Mid-Range CPUs: i5-1135G7, Ryzen 5 5500U, Ryzen 5 5625U, i5-1235U, i7-1195G7, i7-1250U, i7-1255U, i5-1240P, Ryzen 7 5700U, Ryzen 7 5800U, Ryzen 7 5825U
High-End CPUs: i7-1260P, i7-1355U, Ryzen 7 Pro 6850U, Ryzen 7 7735U, i5-13500H, i7-12700H, i7-13700H, Apple M1, Apple M2, Apple M2 Pro
Look for SSDs in laptops! If you want a smooth performance, an SSD is highly recommended for faster boot times and faster load times. Any laptop with an extra M.2 NVMe slot can add this Silicon Power 128 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD. Any laptop with an extra 2.5" drive slot can add this 120 GB Inland Professional 2.5" SATA III SSD.
Looking for a good battery life or low weight? It is available! If you're looking for a good battery life, look for a laptop with a large capacity battery. Additionally, if the laptop has a high-power CPU (H), battery life will be lower. For general use, most people will be fine with a low-power CPU (Y, U, P) processors, which will improve battery life. Another factor is a dedicated graphics card. Most users won't need one. If you don't need a dedicated graphics card, then it is a wise choice to avoid one for a better battery life. In the $500+ range, a low weight is easy to find.

If you are looking for a gaming device instead, take a look at my Best Gaming Laptop list from June 2023.
I am currently looking into getting a new laptop as my 7-year-old HP is showing its age. I plan on having a gaming rig for more high-end performance within the next year so any laptop I would be looking into wouldn't need to "do it all". Money isn't much of an issue, and I would need this laptop to be able to run engineering programs such as CREO or SolidWorks. My work has provided an everyday use laptop for my engineering purposes; however, I cannot use it for personal use. I do not want apple whatsoever, but anything else is up for grabs. The apple part is non-negotiable, I've worked at a phone retail store and seen firsthand how shady apple can be to their customers.
Hello everyone, it is the end of another month and as usual I have prepared recommendations for the best laptops for various categories. Feel free to ask any questions are link a laptop that you think should be included in any of the categories. To learn how CPUs and GPUs stack up against each other, scroll to the bottom of the page
| Gaming & Productivity Laptops 🎮 🏭 | Editing Laptops 🌼 | Student Laptops 🎓 |
|---|---|---|
| If you want a gaming/Productivity laptop there are a few things to keep in mind; GPU, CPU & RAM. These laptops are powerful but do not have the best build quality and generally don't fit in an office setting as they are usually branded and look like a spaceship. | Editing laptops have a strong processor and a high quality screen. If you plan to do professional grade editing you want to get a screen with at least a FHD display and an sRGB rating of at least 90%. | If you are interested in a student laptop - Battery life and weight are you main things to look at. Build quality and 2 in 1 capability are close behind as well. |
| 2 in 1 Laptops 💻 | High Build Quality 💪 |
|---|---|
| These laptops are great for students who want to take notes on their laptop as well as content creators. The ability to write and draw on the screen is great but you also pay a lot more for it than a clamshell with identical specs. | These laptops have a high quality chassis (made of metal) that is able to withstand being drop or bumped with out breaking. The specs in these laptops are generally lower than other laptops at the same price point |
GPU - Without a good graphics card newer and more graphic intensive games such will not run smoothly or will now run at all. However, non-intense titles such as LoL, CS:GO & Sims 4 will run decently on integrated graphics.
Here is how the most popular GPUs stack up to each other
😔 Intel HD Graphics 4600 👉 Vega 7 👉 Intel Iris Xe Graphics 👉 MX450 👉 RX 5500M 👉 GTX 1650 👉 RTX 3050 👉 RTX 3050 Ti 👉 RTX 3060 👉 AMD RX 6700S 👉 RTX 3070 👉 AMD RX 6800S 👉 AMD Radeon RX 6800M 👉 RTX 3070 Ti 👉 RTX 3080 👉 RTX 3080 Ti 😀
CPU - The second most important thing for your gaming laptop is your processor. While most games tend to be more GPU intensive the processor affects the overall system performance and can bottleneck the GPU. Laptops with more powerful GPU generally have an 8 core processor while mid-range systems 400-800 usually have a quad-core CPU. Dual-core CPUs have the capacity to game but they are not ideal as they are not always able to maintain their boosted clock
Here is how the most popular CPUs stack up to each other
😔Ryzen 3 3200U 👉i3-1115G4 👉Ryzen 5 3450U👉 Ryzen 7 2700U 👉 i5-1035G1 👉 i5-7300HQ 👉 i5-10210U👉Ryzen 5 3550H 👉 i5-8300H 👉 i5-9300H 👉i5-1135G7 👉Ryzen 5 4500U👉 Ryzen 5 5500U 👉 i5-11300H 👉 Ryzen 5 5600H 👉 Ryzen 7 5800U 👉 Ryzen 7 4800H 👉Ryzen 9 5900HS 👉 i7-11800H👉Ryzen 7 5800H 👉 Ryzen 9 5900HX 👉 Ryzen 7 6800H 👉Ryzen 9 6900HS👉i7-12650H 👉Ryzen 9 6900HX👉 i7-12700H👉 i7-12800H 👉 i9-12900H 👉 i9-12900HK 👉 i7-12800HX 👉 i9-12900HX X 😀
RAM – This is generally the easiest part of the laptop to upgrade, so you can usually buy a laptop with low RAM and upgrade it yourself later if your budget is tight. No need to go overboard on RAM as 8 GB is enough for gaming but you can get 16 GB for future-proofing.
Storage If your budget allows it, get a laptop with an SSD. AN SSD significantly speeds up any laptop with a HDD. The boot time and load times will be much much faster.
Feel free to comment or ask any questions you have pertaining to any of the laptops on this list
Anyone can tell me the best laptop in terms of specs and performance, aesthetics don’t matter and price doesn’t matter. Looking to use unreal engine at different locations. So I wanted to know the absolute best laptop in terms of specs( highest cpu, most p cores, best graphics card, most gourmet gpu etc.
I need a windows laptop for video editing, gaming, programming and for school. I would also need more than 5 hours of battery life and i would prefer if the laptop has touch screen. I would love if the laptop is using an Nvidia GPU and an Intel CPU.
Thanks in advance
I have been saving up and can afford any computer I want but know nothing about computers, I need help figuring it out what to get. I need something that can handle large xlsx and coding files, that can be connected to a monitor for 10+ hours without overheating, that runs on a windows 11 software and that has an ok battery life with a nice keyboard for when I am not on my monitor. I am currently thinking about the Windows Surface 7 but wanted to ask the community as I don't know what I am doing. PLEASE HELP ME :).
Hi everyone,
Please visit our website laptopsdeals.net for laptop deals, reviews, and lists!
My list is updated this month with all of the excellent gaming laptops featuring new Intel 13th Gen processors and NVIDIA's RTX 4000 graphics cards.
You may have already saw my list of general use laptops. This time, I have an updated version of my general list of good gaming options. If you are looking for a general use devices list, please click here to view my list from April 2023!
As a reminder, this list isn't a definitive list to determine what you should get. It should give you an overall idea of what you should be able to expect in a given price range. If you have any questions about anything listed here, let me know, I will assist you!
This category applies to anyone who is on a tight budget, all the way to the most expensive devices. It applies to anyone who want to play lighter games, as well as demanding games. Here are some bullet points to refer to when looking for a good gaming laptop:
-
Look for a good processor! For gaming, the processor is definitely an important factor. It is more important than in a general use device, since games will benefit from having higher clock speeds and more cores / threads. Most of the U processors are not ideal for gaming, since they often cannot sustain their boost clock speeds. But, they can still make do on a budget. Here is the order of processor strength of the devices I will be presenting: i5-4300M < i5-11400H < Ryzen 7 5800U < Ryzen 5 6600H < Ryzen 9 5900HX < Ryzen 9 5980HX < Ryzen 7 6800H < Ryzen 9 6900HS < i7-12650H < Ryzen 9 6900HX < i7-12700H < i7-12800H < i7-12800HX < i9-12900H < i7-13700H < i9-13900HX < i9-13980HX
-
Look for a good graphics card! This is the most important aspect for gaming! This is the main factor that will be able to fuel gaming capability. Here is the order of weakest to strongest GPUs that are available on this list: Intel HD Graphics 4600 < GTX 1650 < RTX 3050 < RTX 3050 Ti < RTX 3060 < AMD RX 6700S < RTX 3070 < AMD RX 6800S < AMD Radeon RX 6800M < RTX 4060 < RTX 3070 Ti < RTX 3080 < RTX 4070 < RTX 3080 Ti < RTX 4080
-
Please keep in mind that for this generation of GPUs, wattage matters a lot, often more important than the GPU model. For example, a very high wattage RTX 4060 may outperform a lower wattage RTX 4070 or RTX 4080. I have included all of the wattages that are known for the RTX 4000 laptops on my list. Before purchasing, I would recommend watching reviews on YouTube.
-
-
Pay attention to thermals! This has become larger and larger of an issue in recent times. These newer CPUs can consume a lot of power, but some manufacturers have decided to skimp out on cooling, meaning that these processors will happily run at 100°C, which really isn't ideal for long term use. So, you should search up reviews on the device you intend on purchasing for an idea about how hot it runs. If you end up with a system that has a CPU that runs hot, take a look at my tutorial video on how to disable turbo boost. It will decrease temperatures by 20°C to 25°C in games without affecting gaming performance.

Thanks for going through the effort to put together this list! My wife is in the market for a laptop for content creation, coding, and some gaming, so this helps us narrow down some of the choices, especially since Asus is on top of our list.
What kind of processor / GPU i should be looking for if the only game i hope to run smoothly is Tekken 8? I know the requirements are not out yet, but i've heard they're well optimized games. I could run Tekken 7 easily 1440p 100+ FPS with i5-3570k + gtx 1060. I guess the tekken 8 doesn't need much more to play 4k@60fps, even though they're using unreal engine 5 instead of 4.
The laptops mainly purpose would be to play movies and series to my 4k smart TV via HDMI cable or WIFI smart connect, but Tekken 8 is the one game i'm hoping to play on my TV chilling on thr couch.

I am looking for recommendations for a mid-level gaming laptop for my 15 year old son. He worked hard as a lifeguard all summer and will be spending some of his earnings. He is into Minecraft, COD, Fortnight, rocket league, plus a few others. He currently shares a 4 year old mid-level gaming desktop with his little brother that their older brother built. Running Adobe Premiere Pro and Fusion 360 type software would also be good.
His budget is $1000-1500. What would you recommend?
I'm about to buy this one https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/laptops/legion-laptops/legion-pro-series/legion-pro-5i-gen-8-(16-inch-intel)/82wk0046us.
Got a new credit card, will get $200 back after spending $500, plus 8% rakuten points, 2% CC points, and $101 in Lenovo rewards...should I find a use for them, they'll be there, it seems.
USA. I've had a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series for over 7 years and it's been perfect for casual home use. I just use it for surfing the internet and youtube/video streaming. No heavy software programs or gaming. I'd love something under $500 with a 16"/17" screen, at least 16GB ram, and 512G SSD storage is plenty. Open to other brands, its just that my Dell was so reliable. Not opposed to used/refurbished laptops either. Thanks in advance!
LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
<$600
Are you open to refurbs/used?
Yes
How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Performance and build quality
How important is weight and thinness to you?
Not important
Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
At least 16"
Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
No
If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
No
Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
HDMI, multiple USBs
Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I usually use my laptop for things that I believe are simple. I watch and download movies, browse the internet with many tabs open, use Word and Excel, and run screenwriting programs. And not much more.
Sometimes, for work-related reasons, I edit videos and photos. Right now, it’s not something I do frequently, but it might be in the future. So, it would be nice if my laptop could handle these tasks with ease.
I don’t play video games or do streaming.
With this in mind, what laptop would you recommend I buy in 2025? Considering that I hope my laptop will last me for several years and that I can make the most out of it.
One more thing: I love watching movies, so I’m not sure if this is relevant, but I suppose I’d prefer a screen that allows me to enjoy them. I mean good resolution and, maybe, a decent size. Right now, I have a laptop with a 16-inch screen.
One last thing: I work with a lot of files, and for example, my laptop's storage is currently almost full. Maybe this could be solved with an external hard drive or something similar. But I suppose I’d prefer a laptop that already comes with ample storage.
I guess it’s obvious to say that I’m looking for something good (something that meets the needs I described), aesthetically pleasing, and, if possible, affordable.
Alright, that’s all.
Do you have any recommendations?
I’m looking forward to your suggestions!
I've had the same MacBook Pro since 2011, it's severely outdated. I prefer windows based machines now, I think.

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
$500-$1100 USD -
Are you open to refurbs/used?
Refurbs, yes -
How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
I definitely want a laptop with good performance first and foremost. Build quality would likely be second. I do not care about a touch screen, in fact if that increases the price and takes away from other aspects of the laptop, I'd prefer not to have it. A good battery life is a plus. -
How important is weight and thinness to you?
Does not matter -
Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
N/A -
Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Light gaming. No specific games, I have a PS5 for gaming. I like to use my laptop for torrenting, modding my old consoles, discord, etc. Nothing really specific. -
If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
I really don't intend to heavily game. Maybe just some small indie games or the sims. -
Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
I need to have an HDMI output. I prefer to have a USB A and USB C port. The more features the better but I don't think I really need an optical drive at this point. A touch screen would be cool but again it's not really essential. -
Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I have had bad experiences with HP in the past so I prefer to avoid them. There are so many different laptops with different processors and memory sizes and honestly I know very little about what to get. I just want my laptop to last a long time, my current one is going on 13 years which is crazy, but I don't expect another to last me this long. I would like to keep my budget around $1000 and get my best bang for my buck. My reason for wanting windows is better compatibility with applications for my use. I favor Asus or Lenovo, but I have no laptop experience with either of those brands.
Looking to spend as little as possible, under $1,000 but under $500 would be preferred.
Prefer something new.
We’re not attached to any brand or any specific style.
Don’t really care what it looks like or feels like.
Indifferent on size but at least 15 inches preferably.
Need to be able to run Microsoft programs and the stupid cricut brand program. Hope to have a different style cutting program in the future.
Doesn’t necessarily need to be a gaming device/ don’t plan to game. I don’t have any idea about what size rams/gigs/etc would be optimal.
Need to have an option for a keyboard, don’t care how that’s accomplished if it’s with an attached or Bluetooth type. Attachable mouse option, again usb or Bluetooth comparable.
We’re not terribly invested in a computer system, don’t care about brand, but need something reliable and will last more than 5 years. Other things, we’re based in the US, have access to all major retailer’s, have access to Costco and Sam’s club, ok with tablet or laptop and don’t necessarily need technical support related to the computer.
Was thinking of buying DELL XPS but have now read too many people complaining about heating issues so looking for more alternative
New job is essentially giving me a blank check to purchase a laptop.
The obvious choice is Apple, but I just wanted to know what other options there are at the top end of the laptop market that don't include gaming GPUs. Anyone have any experience with high-end Lenovos?
I have been looking for the best, or a list of a few of the best recommended windows laptops on the market right now in the price range of $1000-$2000 that will last for several years. I just need something to play some games on, nothing too crazy but would love a good amount of storage as I tend to install a bunch of games, as well as web browsing and something light-weight where I wont be burdened by carrying it around. I have been looking at some Razer laptops but heard they almost always had defective battery issues but am open to it if there are enough positive inputs, or any other well-known brand for that matter.
I have been skeptical of windows laptops due to Modern Standby mode (have this issue with my Dell Lat work laptop) where if I just shut the lid, the laptop doesn't shutdown and just dies in my bag overnight.
Any insight, recommendations or tips would be greatly appreciated to get the best gaming laptop for the best price!
I am looking for a career in concept design/illustration, and am in need of a good medium priced laptop to use for probably 5 years or more. For reference- Until now i have been using the - HP Pavilion 15-an001na Star Wars - , and its done me a good service. Only upgrades ive done to it is upgrade the ram and general maintenance.
I am looking for something that can run drawing programs, photoshop and other adobe products, possibly blender but not a priority. Casual gaming is also a hobby of mine and i usally play things like terraria geometry dash, space engineers (prob the most high performance game i have run on my old laptop), so something general purpose with around the same screen size as the HP pavillion star wars.
My budget in local currency is 1000lv-2500lv (Bulgarian lev) In dollars around 600$-1500$ (estimate) *keep in mind that electonics are usually a bit cheaper in my country.
Also would like general maintenance tips for laptops (and if there are any specific ones for the suggested laptop), and any recommended upgrades i should do after the warranty finishes.
Thanks for reading this in advance!
Are we talking new or used for options?
Hi, would you recommend the same Laptop but the Reyzen 5 version? I'm a virtual assistant working mainly online so no special programs to download or run. Mainly use teams / zoom etc. Thanks https://www.hp.com/gb-en/shop/product.aspx?id=8A5X0EA&opt=ABU&sel=NTB
I recently broke my Lenovo laptop that I’ve had for 5 years and that thing sucked. I’m just looking for a solid reliable laptop that I can watch YouTube videos and 1080p without lagging 😂. I mostly used it for some school and work but mostly just watching movies and videos no game for anything. I would also like if it looked decent and had a “comfortable” keyboard if that make sense. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
