I'd cast my vote for Eclipse, even if you only think you'll be using Java for a few months. Having a capable IDE to provide error-checking and auto-completion capabilities will save you a bundle of time over using any basic text editor. (And, as The Elite Gentleman has already pointed out, if you take to the environment, you can always continue to use it to develop in a variety of other languages after the course is over!)

I recently moved to M1 Macbook Air and though there is a significant performance advantage on M1 Macbook Air while using Spring Tool Suite but sometimes my M1 Air starts to get warm while using STS and I was wondering which would be the suitable IDE to reduce heat. Below are my options.

Hi, I am trying to learn Java.
I'm probably going to learn it on both Mac and Windows.
For Mac, is there any lightweight IDE recommendation you guys have?
Then, for Windows, is it possible to use Notepad++ or is it recommended for java? I am working through a textbook "Programming and Problem Solving with Java".
I like Notepad++ because it is very lightweight, and I have past experience from botting Diablo II using it.

hi guys, my uni suggests us to use Eclipse but i really really hate the IU. It's just too clunky. Any simple and easy to the eyes editor i can use for mac?

Eclipse, NetBeans and IntelliJ IDEA are essentially your available options, all of which will work on Mac.
I personally prefer IDEA because it's quick/snappy and the code completion works exceptionally well. The community edition is perfect for Java, but as you're a student you can also get the ultimate edition for free which will give you support for a ton of other stuff too.
Many of my colleagues like to use NetBeans which is a great choice too. It has improved a lot in the recent releases.
We used to use Eclipse but stopped because we found it too bug/crash prone.
I recommend you try them all out and become competent using them all as it will help in the long run, especially when it comes to applying for jobs.
