Best TV Series 2023 | Rotten Tomatoes
March 12, 2024 - Succession will likely go down as one of HBO’s greatest series — and that’s already saying something — but as we wait to see how the Emmys will pan out for its final season, we can at least add a Golden Tomato Award for Best TV Series of 2023 to its list of accolades. ... Critics Consensus: As compulsively watchable as ever, Succession's final season concludes the saga of the backbiting Roy family on a typically brilliant -- and colorfully profane -- high note.

The 25 Best TV Series of 2023 | TV/Streaming | Roger Ebert
December 15, 2023 - Netflix took some blows this year in the public eye when it came to both the strike and the increasing sense that it’s a company that plays to an algorithm more than a creative impulse. The exception to their 2023 narrative was their best program by far in this excellent drama about two people from very different walks of life who collide, bounce off each other, and collide again.

My top 10 from 2023- The Last of Us (HBO)- Dystopian adventure/drama. If you’ve ever played the video game, you’ll know the story. If you haven’t, definitely recommend the show. It’s a fantastic adaptation. Can be quite heavy. Shrinking (Apple)- Dramedy about a grieving therapist and his life. Jason Segel and Harrison Ford are so good in their roles. Lots of heart. Daisy Jones & The Six (Prime)- Documentary style drama about a fictional band in the 70’s. Inspired by Fleetwood Mac. Really good story and fantastic music. Riley Keough and Sam Claflin are tremendous as the two leads. The Fall of the House of Usher (Netflix)- Horror/Mystery based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe. Story is engaging, creepy, and unsettling. Really, really good. Gen V (Prime)- Spin off of The Boys. College superheroes trying to navigate life. If you like The Boys, you will like this. I really enjoyed it. Bloody, raunchy, fun. Silo (Apple)- Dystopian mystery. Future civilization lives in underground silos although no one is really sure why. The sheriff is trying to solve a mysterious death. Can feel a little slow at times but I thought the show was engaging and really well done. Beef (Netflix)- Starts out as a simple altercation between strangers and just continues to escalate from there. Definitely the most unpredictable and WTF show I watched last year. Easily binged. Poker Face (Peacock)- Episodic, mystery of the week type show from the mind of Rian Johnson. Interesting, funny, and Natasha Lyonne was built for this role. Tons of guest stars. Just a fun show. Twisted Metal (Peacock)- A show based on a video game series where you don’t do anything but wreck things in cars had no business being as entertaining as it was. Doesn’t take itself seriously at all but had a surprisingly solid storyline. Enjoyable. Platonic (Apple)- comedy about two long time friends who bring out the worst in each other. Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne have great chemistry. Really easy and quick watch that’ll definitely make you laugh.

Best TV shows this year: Must-watch series from 2023
December 5, 2023 - The story, the songs, the performances, all far leveled up from Season 1. It's more than a few musical theater jokes this time; "Schimgadoon!" now has its own story to tell. The best current "Star Trek" series (and maybe one of the best ever), "Strange New Worlds" is a soaring space adventure that hits all the right "Trek" notes (figuratively and literally, in the case of this season's musical episode).

The Television Series I Watched and Loved in 2023
January 1, 2024 - We watched quite a few seasons of ongoing shows in 2023, wrapping up more than one show that were all time favorites of mine. These are in no particular order, but I particularly loved the shows closer to the top of the list and would definitely recommend them. Sex Education was my surprise favorite show during Covid, and I eagerly looked forward to Season 4. This series opened my naive, elder Millennial possibly Gen Xer mind, in many ways over the course of its run, and Season 4 pushed me ever further.

The Very Best TV Shows of 2023
December 4, 2023 - But as we bid farewell to the tumult of 2023, it’s important to also celebrate what the year has given us: hard-won fair contracts for the people who make the shows we love; pitch-perfect finales followed by surprise renewals for The Righteous Gemstones and Somebody Somewhere, and a less-surprising renewal for The Bear, the other show that landed on all three critics’ lists; new series like Mrs. Davis and I’m a Virgo, which proved there’s still room in this fractured landscape for idiosyncratic, ambitious, and just plain weird TV. All are cause for optimism as we watch the industry attempt to reinvent itself (again), a reassuring affirmation that no matter how chaotic things may get, great TV will always manage to find its way to us. ... When trying to whittle down 2023’s good TV shows to a list of the year’s ten greatest, I consider multiple criteria.

The 33 Best New Shows of 2023
January 2, 2024 - Beef is one of the year's very best shows: funny, makes you think, and with an absolutely fantastic soundtrack. Showrunner Lee Sung Jin, director Jake Schreier, and Yeun will reunite on next year's Thunderbolts in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. ... Jury Duty may just be the most unique, engaging, and completely watchable show of 2023—and it all centers on a random dude named Ronald Gladden. Ronald, it turns out, signed up to participate in a documentary being made about the American legal system, and, when he got called for Jury Duty, the cameras began rolling.
