Am looking at replacing my kitchen sink and faucet. Was looking at touchless faucets and decided on a Moen, however in reading the comments online, I found that if you don't have a power source, either battery or AC adapter, faucet WON'T work! This is a no go for me as when the zombie apocalypse comes, even though I have hoarded batteries, one day I will run out and then, no water!
So then I looked at Delta, which seems to have a mode that will work without power, but they don't seem to have touchless, they have 'touch somewhere'.
Was hoping some plumbers who see these all the time could chime in on brands, reliability, etc.
The appeal to me on these touchless is that when cooking and hands have touched raw fish/meat/etc. to touch the handle means to clean the handle as well, so I thought this makes sense. Maybe not?

Not a plumber but I installed a Moen in our kitchen and you’re correct about it not working (at all) without power. And the touchless sensor near the base is currently taped over because it kept coming on when it sensed ….. nothing? Air? A shadow? Came downstairs to find it blasting hot water when no one was in the room. I’d think a touch anywhere sensor would be better.

I'm a plumber and have held a masters license since 1982. I only install Delta, and have 2 in my own home. The batteries will last longer than any power outage you may have. A year or more.

As a plumber, these are the worst. Not the brand, the product. It's a problem that didn't exist. Even what you're saying is more expensive is a cheap faucet that won't last. You get what you pay for. I have friends that I've put these garbage faucets in for, and then 2 years later, I put a different one with some other new features because the last one broke. Don't be fooled by the hype of the novelty.

I love my touchless sensor faucets. I cook and bake a lot, the ability to wash my hands without touching a faucet is amazing. But, I’ve had to turn the front sensor off as my cat was using it as a water fountain. She hasn’t figured out the top sensor so I’m safe. I have Moen from a plumbing supply house.
