Business broker here. BizBuySell and BizQuest are the leading listing sites in North America, both owned by the same parent company. The User Interfaces could use an overhaul, but the lack of information is a feature not a bug. The brokers who list businesses try to share as little info as possible to protect the confidentiality of the businesses. I had success flipping an online business. There are numerous brokers in the space: Quiet Light, Empire Flippers, FE International, etc. Came in with a partner and an SBA loan, bought the biz for 3mm and sold it for 8mm two years later after getting EBITDA into the 7-figure range and the Covid bubble took hold. However looking at what could have happened if SO MANY things didn’t go exactly right makes me hesitant to ever recommend this sort of thing. The company did not continue to perform after we sold, and it was totally stocked to the brim with inventory - the cash drag on that would have squeezed the hell out of us. Practically free government money right when we needed it, a massive demand tailwind we didn’t earn, buy-side money in the form of aggregators (many of whom are now falling apart…), everything was distorted in our favor. You only buy the business if you can see how you can quickly improve it and your exit plan. Also, I think, a $1mm business is too small to be anything worth doing. At that level, a business is in the middle of figuring a lot of things out still. You’ll have to wear a lot of hats besides just the “owner” hat, potentially. More on reddit.com
