r/Bitwarden on Reddit: Bitwarden teams vs enterprise confusion
April 4, 2025 -

Hi All

I am evaluating BW for 5 accounts for our IT team and it looks like enterprise is the only viable option, the teams plan looks like a marketing gimmick about creating a plan offering which no one wants so that everyone just buys the enterprise plan anyway. Its just there for a fake comparison to give us a illusion of choice lol.

What is the point of calling it "teams for business account" if it won't integrate with our existing entra id, or if it won't offer basic features like a global admin account that can go into all other accounts once a user leaves the org.

The teams plan also mentions "directory integration" but says no under "sso".

Also can someone breakdown the collections feature - does it mean a shared collection of logins which will show up for all users?

Hey there, and thanks for the discussion! We wouldn't offer the Teams plan unless there was demand for it, and there are many small teams using the Teams plan who don't require all the features of the Enterprise plan. Regarding directory sync/sso, here is a snippet from our FAQ : Q: Is SCIM the same as SSO? A: No. SSO uses the identity providers’ information to authenticate logging in, whereas SCIM allows specifically for user provision and management. Regarding collections, these are shared spaces to which you can grant access for specific groups or individual users, so only the team members that require access will see them. https://bitwarden.com/help/about-collections/ https://bitwarden.com/help/about-groups/ https://bitwarden.com/help/user-types-access-control/#permissions Don't hesitate to reach out to the official support team directly at https://bitwarden.com/help/ for any plan related questions.

The “teams” subscription is essentially the family plan on steroids, where the company can have many users and have limited control over the accounts. I do believe that Teams allows the company to regain access to an account if an individual leaves; it essentially implements Emergency Access for the admin users. As you have noted, many of the advanced features like SSO integration require the Enterprise subscription. “Collections” are a feature in your Organization where groups of users can share specific sets of secrets with one another: https://bitwarden.com/help/getting-started-organizations/

r/Bitwarden on Reddit: Recommending Bitwarden Teams for Small Business (~16 Users)?
October 30, 2025 -

Hello,

We are currently looking to upgrade our password management system for our small business of around 16 employees. We have a bad tendency to reuse weak passwords for multiple accounts, or storing them in Excel files, Word documents, or sticky notes. We have already had some cybersecurity incidents. Anything we do will be better than this.

I have some questions on whether Bitwarden Teams is the right choice for our organization. We have a wide range of technical literacy in the office, so it needs to be as simple as possible. But all can operate a computer.

  1. My understanding is that each Bitwarden account will be their own personal account. With that said, should users sign up with their work e-mail address or their personal e-mail address? Since nobody else is using a Bitwarden account at home, I'm leaning to them using their work e-mail address. They can change it to a personal e-mail if they choose to leave and would like to keep any personal passwords stored in their personal vault.

  2. How do I deal with the fact that someone will inevitably forget their Master Password? Bitwarden Teams doesn't allow for Account Recovery. Do we set up Emergency Access for staff? Do we have them fill out Emergency Kits that are kept in a locked admin-only safe with proper disposal procedures when employees leave? Do we have them keep them at home in a potentially unsecure environment?

  3. What's the best way to do 2FA? I'm thinking about using Microsoft Authenticator app since most of us have it already for our e-mail. On the chance that someone loses their phone, should I buy a YubiKey that all employees will need to set up as an additional 2FA? The YubiKey will be kept in a admin-only locked safe for emergencies only.

  4. In the event an employee's personal phone is completely filled with malware, would our entire work vault be compromised? An ideal world, we would have work-only cellphones, but that's just not an option for us.

  5. What's wrong with just using Google Password Manager. Anything would be better than we were are doing now. We could have employees set up a work-only Google Account that we keep the log-in details for and periodically check password strength. Obviously this isn't ideal at all, but I'm thinking ahead to what my boss will want to recommend as a free alternative.

Thank you!

We're making the move to Bitwarden and want to be able to offer it to staff as a pw management solution. Trying to get a feel for the real world difference between their Teams offering and the Enterprise offering. Seems like the big differences between the two are SSO and 'enterprise policies.'

But figured I'd check in here and see if any of you have experience with the two different versions, or recently evaluated the options yourself, and what your thoughts are between the two.

Hi, I'm starting a business with 1 partner and we need to share certain logins, I'm wondering if it is only 2 people if we should pay for a family plan, instead of a teams plan and pay 2 members.

what are the main difference between them? I don't really need something really advanced, just an extension and a vault that give a secure way to store and share login details.

https://bitwarden.com/help/article/about-bitwarden-plans/#compare-the-plans Make sure you compare the plans via that link. This really has more to do with what might happen in the future. Do you expect to expand and grow and have more employees? Or do you expect it will just be the two of you for the foreseeable future? If you don’t need attachments or vault reports on the organization, you could get by with a free organization and just pay for two premium accounts for you and your partner. ($20/ yr) Or you could go for a family plan and that would leave some room for expansion (4 more people). ($40/yr) You probably don’t need a teams organization but if you go that way it will be easy to add more people if/when the time comes. ($72 / year) Teams and Enterprise have some additional features that family and free organizations don’t. Check out the link and RCourtney’s comment for more details.

Family and Teams are both Organizations, a way to share passwords between people. Family Plan: $3.33 per month for both of you (actually, for up to 6 users) Teams Plan: $3 per month for each user, if you bill it annually. So $6/month for both of you. Aside from being able to add 6 users with the Family plan for the same price, the main difference are that the Teams plan offers some extra business-use-case perks such as Event Logs , User Groups , API Access , and Directory Connector . Of those, the only one that would probably pertain to your situation is Event Logs, which just tells you when users of the Organization log on and use different passwords, as well as some other events. Since it is just the two of you, another option you can consider is just using the Free Organization which allows sharing between two users. If, at a later time, you need to add more users, or you decide some of the features from Family or Teams are something you would use, then you can upgrade your Organization to Family or Teams.

r/Bitwarden on Reddit: Help: Onboarding a team to Bitwarden with low tech literacy
January 31, 2024 -

I have convinced management of our small company to sign up to Bitwarden Enterprise. This is following some painful password practices across the team and some recent attempted hacks and phishing scams we've fallen prey to.

Cleaning up "password protected" excel files containing credentials and generally just poor practices are the top of the list.

For starters I have myself and the director set up and I'm onboarding them, then going to try train the team (6 other people).

Any tips or pointers would be massively appreciated. The tech literacy is quite low so it'll be a challenge. So any recommendations for recovery configs I should have in place, places where I should establish 2FA, whether the SSO options are straightforward.

The team appear to know none of their passwords. Like if they get logged out of anything often it's a password recovery that's initiated. Some use Google Chrome PW manager.

Is there a suggested approach to get people to stop using Chrome PW Manager entirely once we've migrated over? I'm conscious that it'll just conveniently pop up at every login and people will click "save" out of convenience and we'll end up compromising Bitwarden.

I come from a tech background, so in general I'm happy to put in the work to go through the documentation, but I just wanted to get some insights from anyone else that has implemented Bitwarden for their teams in the past.

I went for Enterprise because I figured maybe rolling out Family plans as an option to the team might get them used to using Bitwarden both in the office and personally - but now I'm thinking I'll wait before teaching this to staff, just in case personal items are put in the wrong vaults or vice versa.

I am looking to trial out Bitwarden for clients password management but wondered do I need the Teams or Enterprise edition? It seems I have to pick at sign up.

Do both Teams & Enterprise both offer the MSP functionality? Or can you pick on a per client basis. So if I have one client who requires SSO they could go on enterprise and then teams for another?

r/Bitwarden on Reddit: License costs of self hosted Bitwarden for my company?
January 28, 2024 -

Hi folks,

I was just reading through the self hosting guidelines and got a little confused about the need to purchases licenses when hosting the app on our own servers. Does this mean that I need a regular license for ever user (5$/month) or does this refer to another license?

I plan for 25-30 users so my cost over 5 years in single licenses are much higher than just setting up a self hosted environment properly I assumed - however, this does not work if I need to purchase 25 license and go through the hassle of setting up and maintaining the self hosted solution.

Thank you for a clarification

Best Florian

June 28, 2024 - Considering upgrading our plan from Teams (paid) to the Enterprise level. r/Bitwarden on Reddit: Bitwarden vs 1password for small team
February 11, 2022 -

Hi everyone,

I ´ve used Bitwarden for personal use for quite a while, and although I wouldn´t call myself a fan, I do like it. I´´'ve been tasked to roll-out a password manager across our team of 8, and looking at the options it's come down to Bitwarden or 1password.

I've used the free trial for 1password and , although it works and does what it says it does, I was a bit disappointed about the UI. It's probably down to personal preference, but I found Bitwarden having a better overall experience and a nicer design (which can be important when rolling it out).

But, 1Password has a really good price of $20 for a team of up to 10 people. For Bitwarden we would be looking at $24 with Teams, and $40 with Enterprise. I'd be more than happy with the Teams option, if it wasn't for the admin reset only being available at Enterprise level. This is a feature available on 1password Teams, so it's double the price.

We're not talking about that much money, but we'd need to justify why we went with the most expensive option.

Alternatively we could go with Bitwarden Teams for $24 a month and pray that nobody screws it and forgets their master password. The rest of the features from the Enterprise wouldn't be of much use due to the reduced size of our team.

If anyone can give their point of view and why they would go for one or the other in this scenario, it would be highly appreciated.

February 27, 2023 -

Hello friends, I have searched the subreddit and have found threads about individuals and small teams, but I'm looking to move around 90 users from LP to a new solution. A preference will be given to the program with the best enterprise features.

We use shared folders (BW and 1P have different names for the same feature) extensively in LP and would like to know from those who have used both who does it better. I know that 1P has a pretty GUI, but we are looking deeper into the feature set that is right for our company.

I appreciate any time that you would take out of your day to provide this kind of feedback.

Thanks!

1pass may have a more polish interface but i would never trust my passwords to a close source app. So Bitwarden it is for me. I have been using it at home last 4 years, all my family use it too and at work. I manage a 50 members IT team, we support several customers, SAP systems, DBs, OS, we have been using Bitwarden like 2 years now. Not a single complain. And the bitwarden support is great.

At a previous place I helped roll out to ~200 users. Bitwarden, not 1P. but I've used 1P personally. Onboarding with SSO is kinda wonky. There's this whole invite/verify loop that has to happen. I'll admit that could just be our particular setup. They do have SCIM if you can leverage it. Shared assets can be tricky. Organizations have Collections. Collections are assigned Groups. Groups are assigned Users. Automating that was tricky. Because of security/encryption there are something that have to be done via a CLI tool. We had to wrap a web interface around it but the CLI tool now has that built in. You may not need to automate. Their business was client based so people moved around projects a lot as well as projects starting and stopping all the time. We needed to. If your use case is more of a traditional business like just teams or departments you can probably do it manually. One of the biggest hurdles was adoption. They still had a decent percentage that never went through the process. They also weren't very heavy handed. They never turned off the ability to for saving passwords in browsers. On the other hand, for anybody not doing client work they probably only had one login because all their systems used SSO. Their documentation is good. The few times they needed support it was fast and helpful. That company wasn't anybody special and we still had a meeting with the CEO and somebody else to go over some pain points and look at the roadmap. I'm not IT so I don't have much experience. I was just helping IT. But from my perspective it's was decent experience. And once it was done they really didn't have to touch it.

I'm getting ready to deploy a company wide password manager and am leaning towards Bitwarden Enterprise (need that SSO.) We are still discussing how many users will get access but it will be somewhere between 80-140 users. The website lists $6 / user / month for the Enterprise license but I believe they do discounts with more users / longer terms.

If you don't mind sharing, how many users do you have and what discount did you get?

Thank you!

Hi guys!

I'm convinced to use Bitwarden for our organization, not self-hosted for the moment. I'll start with ~10 tech staff, and then the hole company.
I've read a lot of positive reviews, and the fact that is open source makes me more confident.

Any advices or tips on the implementation?

Thanks :)
