Wuxly is a great alternative. Right now, they're accepting donations of old fur-trimmed jackets that they donate to wildlife centres. The fur is used to comfort orphaned animals. More on reddit.com

Best cruelty-free WARM winter jacket?
I was reading that Eddie Bauer and The North Face do have "alternative down" or other Vegan (not specifically labeled but materials are) coats/jackets. If you find a good company/brand, let me know because I was looking into this as well. More on reddit.com

Canada Goose goes fur-free

Unpopular opinion but I think this actually makes them less ethical. Every time synthetic animal textiles are used, you need to remember that synthetics=plastics. Synthetic animal textiles don't last as long as real animal textiles, and as they break down over time, they release polluting microplastics. It's also near impossible to beat the insulating abilities of certain textiles like wool, and synthetics are a far cry as far as breathability goes. For the amount of time that you can have an animal textile coat, you'd need to replace the synthetic one several times. One animal life is less important in the grand scheme of things than putting another synthetic coat into the ecosystem for longer than you'll ever live, inherently affecting more animals. I wish they would have instead chosen to make sustainable and harm-reductive animal textiles or natural textiles and not just more plastic in the landfill.

Why do so many people hate Canada Goose with such a passion?
I heard (dont care enough to check), that they're about a $2000 coat, which is fucking absurd, and are seen as an example of people burning money on something that is WAY overpriced when there are others in need. Personally, I dont care enough to check what they cost or if theres a good reason for them to be so expensive. But if they are that much, and they're purely a luxury item, then yeah, I can see the problem with families that buy them for their tween to show off. More on reddit.com

September 18, 2021 -

I literally cannot fathom why anyone would buy anything from this terrible company. I get that not everyone is fully aware, but it has a literal entire animal on its hood for the sake of aesthetics. How does any rational person think it's okay to wear an entire animal around their face just for the hell of it? There are also so many down alternatives to this at this point, there are no excuses. Killing animals for flexing your money and status is not cute.

Anyways, that is all. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.
