Hey guys!
So finally, after grinding the past few years saving uo cash from my Real Estate Photography gig, I'm in the market to get a new camera! I'm incredibly excited, but also incredibly indecisive on what camera I'm going to go with and can use some advice.
Currently, I am looking at the R6 Mark II. It's the camera my boss uses and one he swears by as the camera to get not only for our Real Estate work, but for my portrait work I do on the side as well! As of now I'm using the 5D Mark III I've had since 2017. It looks like an incredible camera, and I borrowed his older R6 when I had to send my 5D in for a shutter replacement, and I really enjoyed using it as well!
The only thing I'm stuck on, is making sure I'm not making a mistake not going for the R5 and shelling out the extra thousand. I was looking at that as well, and through my research they are almost identical except for the megapixels, which is what I'm stuck on. The R6 Mark II would be a few megapixels higher than my 5D, which already produced excellent images, at 24.2 but I know the 40+ megapixels of R5 sounds amazing as well. The trade off of that is the much larger file sizes, which, currently with my line of work would really clog my data haha! My boss has been telling me that 24.2 is more than enough for portrait work and for the real estate work. It's just hard not to romanticize the bigger option haha! The trade off of that is the much larger file sizes, which, currently with my line of work would really clog my data haha!
My goal in the future is to make portraits my main gig, but as of now, RE photography is paying the bills so I'd be an idiot to right now walk away from that! And since I've produced excellent portraits with my 5D with its 22 megapixel sensor, I should also be getting excellent results with the R6II hopefully right? I don't shoot wildlife or sports (except the occasional T-Ball game for my nephew), so I don't really do heavy cropping, which is a big thing I see in terms of choosing between these two bodies. I'm not sure if I'm obsessing too much over megapixel count!
Another big factor of course, is the price. Just bought the 14-35 RF lens, so now I just gotta pick a body. Seeing how, besides the MP count, the camera are incredibly similar, the price point of the R6II sounds more appealing in terms of budgeting. I just want to make sure it's the right choice for what I do since I'm going to have this camera for years to come!
So to anyone that may have been in my situation, would you guys recommend getting the R6II? What advice would you have to help me make my decision? Thank you!!
