Your original schematic isn't clear but I think you're trying to use the N-Channel MOSFET as a switch. Since I don't know the current required by your LED strip you should spec one out yourself. This video gives a great introduction to MOSFETs. Below is an explanation for each of the components used.
R1 - current limiting resistor to limit the gate current to reduce voltage oscillations
R2 - pull down resistor to avoid spurious activations by creating a defined voltage level at all times
R3 - load resistor that represents the position of your LED strip in the whole schematic.

As others have mentioned, it may be easier to just power the LED strip from a source that's controlled by the ignition. If it's a 12V supply you'll have to use a voltage regulator like the LM7805 to reduce the voltage. It's only rated for about 1A though. If your strip needs more consider a buck converter.

Hi team, I recently got some unique LED string light from alibaba.
Unfortunately, it's got a USB end for power. Could I cut off the USB end, strip the shielding and solder it into my dome light wiring in my vehicle?
I'd like these fairy lights to be wrapped around my Jeep's roll bar and come on when the interior lights come on but unsure if these strips would accept 12 volts without burning up.
Admittedly, the strips (when I turn them to the white color) start fading to yellow 3/4's of the way down the strip. I understand it's due to lack of power. Perhaps a straight 12 volt source would work?
I am trying not to use an inverter like a cigarette lighter power plug because then my idea of the lights coming on with the interior lights would go out the window then.
Sadly, I cannot find bluetooth controllable, color changing programming app, fairy lights, that is advertised as 'will work on 12 volt'.

There are different strips that accept 5V, 12V, and even 24V. A USB powered (5v) strip will die when powered with 12V. Those will blow if you put 12v to them. They can take around 6v without going out but even that is pushing it. You can get a 12v to 5v step down converter or just a cigarette lighter to usb to get 5v. If 5v power is drooping at the end of the strip, then you can inject an additional 5v supply at the other end of the strip. If it’s a separate power source at the other end, then you can cut the positive in the middle and keep ground and data tied together, and it will work. If it’s all one supply point you can just connect + at multiple points along the strip, such as the beginning and end of the strip. i.e the strip starts at the dome, travels in a big loop and ends back at the dome, you can hook up the 5v to both ends and it should help with dimming. Careful with the number of amps you are pulling through your dome light!!
