I’m a complete beginner looking to buy one of these two as they are the only DP’s available where I’m at.

The cdp-s100 cost 500 and the cdp-s160 550.

The only difference between the two is that the s160 has triple pedal support.

Is the extra cost of 50 worth it for the triple pedal support?

For a complete beginner? No you really will only learn to use the damper pedal for the most part eventually the other pedals can become useful but from my understanding it’s fairly limited. On uprights they may only have the damper and the soft pedal. You may have a middle one which is often for practice felt to make it quiet. On a few higher end ones it will be a sostenuto on grands it’s the una corda (quiet but shifts everything over so it sounds different) the sostenuto and the damper. In the end though they tend to be rarely used as a beginner nearly all your focus will be on the damper pedal for a while. If that’s the only difference I would say you are better off putting that money towards lessons and learning.

Most of the time, you will only be using the single sustain pedal. The other two pedals are rarely used. By the time you will need to use the other two pedals, you would have most likely outgrown the Casio and would need something more higher end instead.

Hey, so I'm planning to get either a Casio CDP S-110 or a Casio CDP S-160, and I was wondering if any of you own one, and if so what's your opinion about this models.

I'm a self taught intermediate player (2 and a half years in). I currently own a Casio CT S-300, so I'm looking for an upgrade in order to play rock and pop accompaniments, although I'm keen on start learning a little bit of classical music.

I've tested the keys action of the CDP S-110 and I really liked it. I find that Roland's FP-10 and Yamaha's P-145 are a little bit to heavy for me.

So id appreciate your comments on your experience with these Casio models. Thanks.

I've owned the CDP-S100 (from what I understand the only change from the 100 to the 110 is they made the grand piano sounds sustain for longer). Anyway the things I didn't like about the S100 was the pianos on it don't sound crisps, they sound a bit mushy/plasticky, and you notice this most when using it via headphones. This is a good video to hear what I'm talking about, if you switch between the 3 pianos a bunch you can hear the tone of the casio is not quite right. Only other complaint I had was the short pivots but AFAIK all compact models have this issue.

Feeling a bit of buyers remorse choosing this keyboard as my second digital piano, after my first keyboard broke.

Don't get me wrong, I love this thing, I've had it for about 6 months. But after reading reviews on here of people saying that it sounds bad, it feels bad, its just bad in general, I'm having regrets of not choosing a "better" option.

Is this keyboard really that bad for someone who's been playing for a few years at an intermediate level?

If you love it, why does it matter that other people don't? Is this keyboard really that bad for someone who's been playing for a few years at an intermediate level? I've never played one so no idea. In terms of its price point to me it seems like something that you'd buy as a beginner and upgrade to something more expensive after a few years. But that all depends on how much you enjoy playing it and how much disposable income you have. I can't imagine it really holding back your improvement, so if you enjoy playing on it, isn't that what matters?

I had a previous version of that piano, CDP-S100, it served me well for couple of years. I upgraded to Casio AP-470 because mostly I got used to the feel of Casio pianos, and in my country there's not a lot of choice here. I would say, even though AP-470 has some more options, it feels quite similar to S100 so it doesn't justify the price. So I'm kind of in my own hell of buyers remorse as well, but I didn't have much choice. I actually miss the portability of the S100 model the most, as I could hook it up right to my PC, put it on my front desk and use my screen for reading music sheet, guides, videos etc. Having a full sustain pedal is nice, I don't know if S110 has that option as well, for half-pedalling I mean. But I digress. If you're not liking the sound of the piano (I didn't) then you can use some VSTs. I mostly used Pianoteq, it sounded great on S100.

Looking at these three for my first weighted digital piano. Coming from a non weighted keyboard. All three come in colours other than boring black and white. I don't see myself buying another keyboard to upgrade any time within 10 years but I also know diminishing returns exist with instruments of any kind.

I have heard good things regarding all three looking for anecdotal experience, which you think is the best bang for buck, which sounds the best to you, more importantly i'm looking for which is closest both in feel and sound to a real piano. I don't have much knowledge in this area as I am a guitar player, but I just can't resist purchasing one of these.

I've listened to soundbites of them all and they all sound good to my ears. All three are beautiful to my eyes. Thank you in advance

I have a PX-S3100 (same as 1100 but adds a display, more sounds, and some arranger features) and I’ve played the ES110 a number of times (predecessor to the ES120). I’d suggest trying both before committing, but I do prefer the Kawai action if that’s the main driving feature for you, and I understand they’ve improved it again for the ES120. If I were looking for which succeeds best purely as a piano, I’d pick the Kawai. That said, I do like the action on the Casio - the only caveat is that it does feel shorter (the weight increases faster as you play deep toward the back of the keys). I can see why people would especially recommend the Kawai if you’re spending a lot of time playing more advanced classical repertoire. I ended up going with the Casio for three reasons: I like the feel of the action generally and it’s good for most of what I play portability (it can run on batteries for outdoor use, and you can get a gig bag with backpack straps) connectivity: the ES110 didn’t have as many options. I understand that’s been improved on with the ES120. Bonus: the arranger features and additional tones on the 3100 are fun to play around with (the 1100 doesn’t have nearly as many though) I haven’t played the CDP160, but I expect the action would feel similar to the 1100/3100 and the speaker quality probably would not be as good. Again, would suggest trying each of them before you commit to one (do you have the option to rent?)
