r/CPST on Reddit: Can’t find Chicco NextFit Zip to buy online?
August 14, 2025 -

Both Consumer Reports and The Bump have the Chicco NextFit Zip as the highest rated car seat, but I can’t find it to buy from any reputable site.

Is this just because it’s sold out? Any recommendations for a similarly highly rated car seat, around $300? We need one ASAP because our infant car seat sucks.

r/parentsofmultiples on Reddit: Another convertible car seat question!
November 6, 2022 -

Hi all! We’re a one car household and don’t do a ton of driving but occasionally have longer trips. We drive an SUV and upgrading to a minivan is not an option for a myriad of reasons, most of which are $$.

We installed Diono Radians for our twins which were very difficult to get in. I honestly do not think the harness is ever tight enough on the babies and also they clearly dislike the seats as displayed by the never-ending meltdown every time they’re in the seats. (They’ll become our backup seats for them in Grandma’s car)

These are very much the only kids for us, so no concern for 3 across and no real need to free up a seat in the back. I’m looking to find better seats for the tiny monsters. Husband and I are not particularly tall, but also not short and need some legroom up front. Dionos with the angle adjuster gave us more than enough, for an FYI.

I think I’ve narrowed it down to Graco Extend2Fit and Chicco Nextfit - has anyone used these? Or have a better recommendation? And I fully understand that the general consensus is minivan, but truly it’s not in our budget cards.

The Extend2Fit is very compact front to back if you install it on recline 4 for a rear facing baby/toddler who can sit independently. It’s generally easy to use and install, but difficult to tighten the harness. The extra legroom option is great for bigger rear facing kids if you have the vehicle space to take advantage of it (but obviously this makes it bigger front to back). The big issue with this seat is it can be incompatible in lots of cars if you choose to forward face before 40lbs. There is a recline requirement for smaller forward facing kids that makes it impossible to install correctly much of the time (the bottom of the car seat overhangs the vehicle seat too much). SO: If you have higher percentile kids OR will rear face to 40+lbs regardless of age (which is 4ish for average kids and 5+ for smaller kids) the E2F is great! If you say no to either of those things, but really want the E2F, go for the Extend2Fit 3-in-1 version. It doesn’t have the same recline rule for forward facing, so it’s more versatile down the road while still having the leg extender and compactness front to back. The E2F is very wide side to side, and about 20lbs if seat weight matters to you. The Nextfit feels bougier than the Extennd2Fit. The latch install is SO easy because of the built in “ratchet” mechanism. My biggest complaint about this seat is that the sides are pretty high so it’s annoying to lift bigger kids into it. The interior seat area is also very C-shaped so one of my kids gets car sick in this seat every time he rides in it more than 20 minutes (he has the same issue with a couple other seats but none as dramatic as this one due to the squish on his belly from the rounded posture). The Nextfit Max version rear faces to 50lbs (but it’ll be outgrown by height first) but the extra built in leg room is NICE. It’s not as major as the Extend2Fit tray, but it’s substantial and very comfy for my non-car sick twin. The Nextfit seats are heavy at close to 30lbs. The Britax Boulevard is another seat worth adding to this conversation imo. Super easy to install with the seatbelt using the Clicktight mechanism. Lots of recline options to find that balance between front seat space and comfort for the kiddo. The seating area is more L-shaped than either the Extend2Fit or Nextfit lines so many kids look less “slumpy” in the Boulevard. Britax allows continued use of their seats after minor crashes (think parking lot fender bender; there is specific criteria for “minor crash”); Graco and Chicco technically require replacement after any minor collision. The Boulevard is heavy like the Nextfit, 30ish lbs, but it is slightly narrower side to side and has a sleeker look/feel due to the shape of the shell. I use my Boulevard more often than my Nextfit Max more often than my Extend2Fit, based on my preference of install (I am a car seat safety professional, I have about 20 convertible seats and move them around A LOT), and my kids’ perceived comfort preference (my opinion of how they look in the seats- other than my tube fed twin getting car sick in the Nextfit, none of my 3 kids really complain about any of these seats though!)

I have a lexus rx 350 and we use the extend2fit. No complaints and the kids enjoy them. The harness can be difficult to tighten.
