Is it legal to decorate your vehicle with Christmas lights in WA? Here's what the law says
December 20, 2024 - According to Washington State Patrol Trooper John Dattillo, there isn’t a state law that specifically bans decorating your car with Christmas lights, but there are state laws that specify the kinds of lights that are permitted, where and how they should be mounted on the vehicle and how many lights you’re allowed to have on your vehicle.

Are Christmas lights on cars legal? Here's what law enforcement says
December 18, 2024 - While possessing, using, and maintaining blue and red lights on your vehicle could potentially add up to a misdemeanor, Martin said their main focus remains on egregious violations. “Our main concern would be the safety of the motor public, making sure that the people that visit and live in Wake County are, for lack of better terms, ‘behaving,’” explained Martin. Vaughan added, “If it’s clearly decorations and clearly Christmas lights, are we going to primarily focus on the fact that you have a red light or blue light?

I live in Wisconsin and wanted to do this but I was about to do it and then realized this might not be legal. I did some research and it was so wide range. Some said it was completely legal and others saying it legal with certain colors and others just flat out said it was illegal. I really want to do this so if someone could tell me if it's OK please let me know.

I know Texas is pretty big on highway, and general motor vehicle safety. Is it illegal to put Christmas lights onto your car? Or is it completely legal?

Nope! We lit up our vehicles every year for a while there. Our Motorcycles too! BUT, the only rule was that you CANNOT have just red and blue. You cannot resemble an emergency vehicle

Thread on this from a few years ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/texas/comments/9xc0vd/christmas_lights_on_my_truck/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf Honestly, I see it all the time in Houston. As long as they aren’t strobing/flashing, and aren’t obnoxious, I think law enforcement will leave you alone. There’s a guy local to me in an old Bronco that seems to keep them installed and lit up on his exterior roof and inside liner all year round. TLDR; if it makes ya happy, just do it. It’s a somewhat common thing here.

How illegal is it to have Christmas lights on top of a car going on the road? - Quora
Answer (1 of 4): Although xmas lights aren't particularly bright relatively, it is likely illegal (just like pregnancy — you can't ask “how pregnant are you?” It is either legal or not— there is no in-between).

Is it against the law to have Christmas lights that are too bright or distracting? - Quora
Answer (1 of 2): I believe that would be up to your neighborhood association, if one exists. Otherwise, go for it and see what happens. If they’re too bright or distracting then I’m pretty sure someone will complain. I quit putting a lot of outside lights out because it was too much of a hassle t...

I have a wreath on the spare tire of landy. I made certain to only decorate it with red lights. Nobody has said a word to me in ten years of doing it. You just need to be smart about it. Use the appropriate coloured lights and make sure they stay on and not blink.
