Concrete Firepit Pottery Barn vs Real Flame
Any clever ideas for converting this concrete slab into a fire pit?
I am an absolute amateur. Please criticize. Fire pit base.
Built a pretty sweet DIY backyard fire pit that's done really well at helping keep the smoke down and not blowing in people's faces. There's different ways you can get the right air-flow to get a *smokeless* effect. This is how I did it - hopefully some helpful tips/inspiration.
Here I’m replacing our old worn out fire pit with a new modern concrete one. We picked up the fire pit as a kit from a local concrete centre here in Southern Ontario. The kind of place that makes custom concrete pieces for the yard - think bird baths, statues, fireplaces etc.
They had different options like the round one we got as well as square and rectangle. It comes with the white bricks and the metal insert. The only other material we used was a layer of bricks at the bottom from the old fireplace. These were just basic garden edging bricks and you could substitute with another kind you might have around.
The cool thing is if you build these things right you can greatly eliminate smoke which makes it so much more enjoyable to sit around and the neighbours appreciate it too :) I talk about how this works near the end of the video.
More on reddit.comShould I have to install legs on PyroMania fire pits to allow ventilation inside the fire pit?
Legs are optional for PyroMania firepits, but fresh air must be able to pass under the fire table to safeguard against residual gas accumulation. Failure to allow proper ventilation may cause a fire or explosion. If installing PyroMania fire table without the optional legs, it should be placed on a hard level surface that allows proper ventilation through the ½” gap incorporated into the bottom. If the installation method blocks the incorporated gap, then an alternative method for allowing ventilation would be required.
Required minimum clearances to combustible materials:
Sides and back - 48 inches. Top - 72 inches.
Does the firepit materials handle freeze and thaw?
All PyroMania firepits are made from GFRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) which has a better ability to expand and contract than traditional concrete and much less likely to suffer from structural cracks. GFRC is considered a gold standard material for extreme weather which makes it the ideal material for outdoor fire features.
Can I put a PyroMania fire table on a wood or synthetic deck?
Yes, PyroMania fire tables have a heat shield incorporated underneath the burner pan and can be placed on a wood or synthetic deck.
