This is a beautiful list of interesting words. The definitions, though, trouble me. penumbra - a shadow, proverbially when one thing slightly affects other things The metaphorical definition you give in a comment is actually something that covers, surrounds, or obscures. It is not merely something that has a slight effect. In no sense is penumbra ever a shadow. gravitas- dignity This definition is so simplistic as to be inadequate, or simply incorrect. Merriam-Webster says it means "high seriousness (as in a person's bearing or in the treatment of a subject)." Dignity would probably always be associated with gravitas, but they are not the same. germane- relevant to If this were more nearly correct than it is, germane would not mean "relevant to," rather merely "relevant." We would say something is "germane to" another thing, not "germane to to" it. Nor would it be correct to say something is "germane another thing."
