The book is a companion to the 1980 show Cosmos. The Neil DeGrasse Tyson version of Cosmos has nothing to do with the Carl Sagan book, really. If you've not seen the original series and want to read the book, I'd recommend watching the original series first and then read the book so you read everything in Carl's voice :D

Universe Today - Space and Astronomy News
It lies between the recombination of the first atoms and the ignition of the first stars, when the Universe was thought to be cold and dark. Now astronomers have looked at the faint glow of atomic hydrogen to find that while the Universe was dark, it wasn't quite as cold as we thought.

As the stars move across the sky each night people of the world have looked up and wondered about their place in the universe. Throughout history civilizations have developed unique systems for ordering and understanding the heavens. Limits of the cosmos: The far reaches of space | Astronomy.com
May 18, 2023 - At that point, light was free to stream about the cosmos. That light has been traveling along the fabric of space-time ever since. Today, it bathes the sky in a cool microwave glow, its wavelength stretched by cosmic expansion. This cosmic microwave background (CMB) looks nearly the same in every direction. It reveals to astronomers what the universe looked like just 380,000 years after the Big Bang: an almost featureless soup of hydrogen and helium.
