Once your new CIBC card is activated, you (and any authorized users) will no longer be able to use the Capital One Costco Mastercard. All of your previous card details (like card number and PIN) will remain the same, as does your credit limit.

I was wondering why people use their cibc costco card to pay at the costco as the reward rate is just 1% in their store. For the gas it is a no brainer as you get 3% reward but only 1% in their store. Some mastercard card offer more than 1% reward

I don’t have another Mastercard. The only credit card type Costco takes is Mastercard. So for me, it’s debit or my Costco card. Yes I know I could get another card. I am happy with my number of credit cards as too many gets unwieldy. I’d rather get 1% back than nothing.

On vacation in Banff and Jasper and was picking up food yesterday at the Costco in Calgary. Was paying for groceries and realized they wouldn't accept our Citi Costco card or any of our Chase cards with no foreign transactions fees. People in line understandably were starting to get impatient. Luckily had my Ally Debit card saved on my phone.
Maybe this is widely known but just wanted to let people know.
EDIT: based on comments, sounds like Costco Canada (and other international Costcos) does accept Visa Citi Costco CC but not any other visa cards. Possibly have to use a chip card reader and not tap to pay.

Costco worldwide accepts any Costco branded credit card, even if it is a different network than what is usually used within that country. I have used my US Costco Visa plenty of times at Canadian warehouses (amongst others) with zero issues.

Rogers MC is the best for Costco. You can also buy a Costco Shop Card on line with another credit card, but Costco Pharmacy doesn't accept the Shop Card, they will ask for a MC.

As Costco is classified as a wholesale store by Mastercard and they also only accept Mastercard, the only card I've found that specifically gets a multiplier at Costco is BMO's Air Miles cards. However, this forces you to collect Air Miles which is kind of dead and not ideal... anyone know of any other card that fits that niche? I do the majority of my grocery shopping there and the actual CIBC Costco Mastercard is just a basic 1% for in-store. Thanks!
