Why use datadog when it is so expensive?

All of my customers are focused on getting off of NewRelic, zero will renew next year. They really screwed up their pricing structure and pissed every single customer of mine off. Everyone went from loving NewRelic to focused on how quick can we get rid of it. It's rare that yo see a company screw themselves over as hard as they did, but they seemed to have managed to. F*** NewRelic.

Datadog costs that high?
Datadog is expensive but I’m a big fan of their tooling. I would recommend them over New Relic or Sumo all day. More on reddit.com

Yea.. its DataDog again, how you cope with that?
You need to tell us what products are driving your costs. My general advice is to use a log shipper like Vector.dev (which, funny enough, was acquired by Datadog) to impose per-service rate limits / flood protection and to drop known logs you don’t want. Doing it at this level also gives you the option to archive everything to S3 while only sending certain things to Datadog. For high-cardinality metrics, one hack is to publish them as logs instead. This lets you pay per gigabyte rather than per metric. You can still graph and alert on data projected from logs. More on reddit.com

People also ask

Can you negotiate Datadog pricing?
Yes, Datadog pricing is negotiable — particularly at the enterprise tier and for high-volume usage. While list prices for lower tiers are sometimes fixed, SMB and Mid-Market companies spending above $104351 and Enterprise companies spending above $700524 have meaningful leverage to negotiate discounts and favorable contract terms. The most effective levers are: (1) real pricing benchmarks, (2) a clear negotiation strategy, and (3) expert procurement support. Datadog’s sales team responds to structured deals backed by market data.
