4 white-2 amber is a memory failure. Unplug the system, remove the base cover and disconnect the battery from the system board.  Hold the power button for 30 sec.  Reconnect the battery, replace the cover and see if the system will then POST and boot.  If the same error occurs, the memory is bad. On this model, the memory is not replaceable - you must replace the system board.  Hopefully, the system is under warranty - if it is, contact Dell.  If it is out of warranty, you're facing a repair bill of $600+ just for the board, plus labor. Memory or Read-Only Memory (ROM) failure If competent, take the memory out and try the following - if there are two DIMMS then try each one in each slot to see if there is any change, if just one DIMM the try both slots and also try no RAM installed and it should produce a 2,3 code. @JessWong666 those codes are uniform across the last few generations of Latitudes. To get an accurate diagnostics sequence it's recommended that you try a diagnostic boot by holding down the Fn key and powering on the system. The system will then flash the power button in sequence to advise what fault its encountering. Blinking Pattern Possible Problem Problem Description Amber White 2 1 CPU CPU failure 2 2 BIOS ROM failure System board failure (included BIOS corruption or ROM error) 2 3 Memory No memory/ RAM detected 2 4 Memory Memory/ RAM failure 2 5 Memory Invalid memory installed 2 6 Chipset System board/ Chipset error 2 7 LCD LCD failure 3 1 RTC power failure CMOS battery failure 3 2 PCI/ Video PCI or Video card/ chip failure 3 3 BIOS recovery 1 Recovery image not found 3 4 BIOS recovery 2 Recovery image found but invalid   If you are currently encountering this issue I'll drop you a private message to get your tag details. If your product is in warranty, you can easily reach out to tech support right here. Just click the Get Help Now button at the bottom right corner of the page. The button is marked with a help icon for easy recognition as per the picture below: Now, if you prefer to troubleshoot your system on your own, please note that a pattern of 2 amber lights and 4 white lights indicates a Memory/RAM failure. Follow these steps to resolve the issue: Shutdown Your Device: Ensure your device is powered off completely. Disconnect Power: Unplug the power adapter and remove the battery (if applicable). Re-seat the Memory Modules: Open the access panel to your device's memory modules. Carefully remove and then re-seat each memory module. Ensure they are properly secured in their slots. Check for Loose Connections: Examine other internal connections, ensuring all components are securely in place. Power On: Reconnect the power adapter and battery, then power on your device. Observe if the issue persists. If reseating the memory doesn't fix the issue, try performing a Hard Reset:  Turn off your computer. Disconnect the power adapter from your computer. Remove the base cover. Disconnect the battery cable. Press and hold the power button for 20-30 seconds to drain the flea power. Install the battery. Install the base cover. Connect the power adapter to your computer. Turn on your computer. Important:  If the pattern of 2 amber and 4 white lights started after a RAM upgrade, it is likely that the RAM is not compatible with the system. Important²: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it is possible that the motherboard may be faulty and require replacement. We recommend contacting technical support by clicking Get Help Now in the bottom right corner of the page, or reaching out to a trusted technician for further assistance. r/Dell on Reddit: G5 5000 desktop - blinking power light - 2 amber / 4 white when turning on.
March 13, 2021 -

G5 5000 desktop - blinking power light - 2 amber / 4 white when turning on.

When I went to turn on my G5 5000 all I got was the blinking power light... some quick searches told me it was a memory error. I only have 1x16gb ram and it is in the second slot from the cpu (the first white tab slot). So I did the only thing I know to do, which is pull the ram and then re-seat it back in the slot. That didn't help at all, as I got the same lights. So I took the ram out again, and I put it in a different computer, and it worked fine. I saw that it showed in the total memory of that computer. So I figure it must be the motherboard. But just for fun, I decided to try the ram in the fourth slot from the cpu (the second white slot), not knowing if this would even work, since all I had ever known was to load memory sticks from near to far from cpu. Well, low and behold, when I powered it on I didn't get any blinking lights... but it went into the Pre-Boot System Performance Check and when finished said there was a critical error (which I knew). However after that I was able to get into Windows, and it has been running fine since. So I guess my initial question is, is it ok to run it in that slot ?

So here's a little bit more to the story (ah!) and trying to determine if I did this to it. As you can see in the attached photo, I have installed the Noctua NH-U9S to help with the well documented underwhelming stock cooler provided. Is there something that I could have done while installing that, that could have shorted out that memory slot ? And does this mean I am stuck with single channel memory forever ? I was just wondering (and haven't tried it yet), does this mean that the first black slot is fried too? And since the second white slot worked, and provided the first black slot works, can I just use the black slots - or does something need to be in the white slots ? Sorry for so many questions, I'm learning on the fly here.

Thanks in advance to any help that can be provided.

- Steve

Dell XPS - 2 Amber & 4 White Blinking Lights | DELL Technologies
May 25, 2024 - Issue: I went to turn on my laptop (previously had no issues with), the Dell logo appears (white logo, black screen) but does not proceed passed it. I have done some hard restarts on it (by keeping finger on the power button), but each time I have this problem. The battery light flashes twice amber and then four times white.

Hi, pattern 2 amber, 4 white is for Memory or RAM failure.  First thing i would try is reseating RAM. Second thing i would do is flea power release: Flea power is the residual static electricity that remains on the computer even after it has been powered off and the battery has been removed. The following procedure provides the instructions on how to conduct flea power release: Turn off your computer. Remove the base cover. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to drain the flea power. Replace the base cover. Turn on your computer. Dell forgot to add up one step for this ( its to unplug battery doing flee power release) Third thing i would do is hold power button for 30 seconds ( more on link bellow): https://www.dell.com/support/article/si/en/sibsdt1/sln304892/how-to-reset-real-time-clock-rtc-to-recover-your-dell-portable-system?lang=en Also try this if your product is supported: http://dell.to/2u4vSud The HDD and DATA should be unharmed as it doesnt have anything to do with above troubles. Regards,
