Scientists Found a Dinosaur's Face, Complete With Its Skin
January 26, 2023 - In 2011, archaeologists uncovered one of the most — if not the most — pristine dinosaur fossils yet: a near-whole ankylosaur, complete with its jagged spikes, most of its limbs, armor coating, and some of its guts and stomach contents.

The dinosaur remains found in 2011, with its skin and guts intact.
It seems that the title is misleading, judging from some of the replies. Rest assured that after more than 65 million years, not a single DNA molecule or dinosaur protein / cell / tissue / 'guts' has remained intact. The external shape has been completely replaced by rock / minerals, allowing us a glimpse of what it looked like. It's an extremely rare event for the most resilient part, i.e. the bones or some of them, to fossilize. And then it's even rarer that any of the skin or other soft tissue would fossilize. This specimen is the jackpot. DNA is relatively stable, and it's already amazing that we can gather and analyse mammoth DNA (about 10.000 years old), and that's because they were well preserved in ice for all those years. Even under those perfect conditions, the DNA strands are heavily fragmented, incomplete. A time span of at least 65 million years is about 6500 times longer than that. Final note, I'm not an expert, I don't know when nodosaurs roamed the earth exactly, but there are dinosaurs that went extinct over 200 million years ago. Think about it. That means that there was more time between the extinction of these dinosaurs, e.g. Stegosaurus, and those that survived until the KT extinction, e.g. tyrannosaurus Rex, than the time between T Rex and us (i.e. about 65M years). Dinosaurs as a whole roamed the earth for a crazy long time, and due to how rare the fossilization process is, we only know about a fraction of them (so far). More on reddit.com

World's oldest skin preserved in extraordinarily rare fossil find
June 1, 2024 - Bury it quickly enough in just the right medium and you can end up with a feathered dinosaur tail preserved in amber, a 133-million-year-old brain pickled in a bog, and a nodosaur still sporting skin and scales that looks like it’s just taking a nap. Now, scientists at the University of Toronto have found the oldest fossilized skin known so far, at least 21 million years older than the previous record-holder for any animal.

October 23, 2025 - Sereno, lead study author and a professor of organismal biology and anatomy at the University of Chicago, described the initial discovery as “the greatest dinosaur mummy — until maybe the juvenile that we found” in the year 2000. r/fossils on Reddit: 110 Million Year Old Dinosaur Mummy Found With Skin Still Intact
3 weeks ago -

In 2011, miners in Alberta, Canada uncovered one of the most astonishing dinosaur fossils ever found — a 110-million-year-old nodosaur so perfectly preserved that it looks like a statue frozen in time. Unlike typical fossils, this specimen still retains its skin, armor plates, and even traces of its internal organs.

This nodosaur, later displayed at the Royal Tyrrell Museum, is often called a “dinosaur mummy.” The mineralization process happened so rapidly that its body essentially petrified before decay could set in. The result is an incredibly lifelike fossil showing the dinosaur’s original shape, armored scales, and even subtle patterns on its skin.

The specimen belonged to a plant-eating armored dinosaur about 18 feet long. Scientists think it sank into the ocean after death, was buried quickly by sediment, and preserved under perfect conditions for over 100 million years.

Edmontosaurus mummy AMNH 5060 - Wikipedia
1 week ago - The third day after their father's departure, George and Levi recognized that they had found an apparently complete skeleton lying on its back. When removing a large piece of sandstone from the chest region of the specimen, George discovered, to his surprise, a perfectly preserved skin impression. In 1930, George remembered: Imagine the feeling that crept over me when I realized that here for the first time a skeleton of a dinosaur had been discovered wrapped in its skin.
