using a ball bearing drawer slide flat | Sawmill Creek Woodworking Community
October 26, 2021 - Spice pullouts I usually do are larger/taller than the little style in the photo you posted and when the anticipated load will be higher than a heavy undermount will handle (135lbs) we run 2 ball bearing slides vertical on the bottom and single on the flat at the top as a guide to keep the pullout centered at the top. Ive only seen the same thing Steve mentions in any US literature that the heavier slides are the only ones with a de-rated flat mount load capacity though we've all seen the cheap chinese pullouts like your photo running ball bearings on the flat.

With the right setup it would not rattle...in the setup above you can see a gap between the bearing and the slide ..you really don't need a gap using bearings..... close the gap and no rattle and use bearings along the base to control side to side movement... ARB drawers use this setup and ... More on forum.ih8mud.com

Installing drawer slides perfectly straight and parallel? | LumberJocks Woodworking Forum
February 27, 2008 - Funny how greasy ball bearings landing in sawdust will disappear when coated with sawdust . The struggle to fit these was abandoned and changed to simple plastic sliders with plastic rollers .They were bad enough to get straight . Start with Victorian wooden sliders so the drawers can be maintained with sandpaper, chisels ,candle grease and some shoving and pushing when needed .

December 19, 2024 - Ideal for drawers with hefty contents, such as silverware or tools. Full-extension range allows the drawer to open fully for best access to contents in the back. r/Workbenches on Reddit: DIY drawer slides... How long (and heavy) can you reasonably go
March 21, 2020 -

I’m a drawer newbie so please excuse my ignorance.

I have a 48”x27” space on the bottom of one side of my work bench. I’d love to do a sliding tray to access the items on the back side without having to roll out the table from the wall. The problem is 48” drawer slides are almost $200. (about as much as I have into the workbench so far for everything else.) Any more economical options, DIY or otherwise? I thought about just waxing some rails and sliding the tray on those but I wonder how it will work with such a large and heavy tray.
