r/BeginnerWoodWorking on Reddit: A pair of serving trays I made from scratch
June 12, 2022 - If these look familiar, it's because I modeled them on the trays that u/wms5228 posted a couple of weeks ago! My wife suggested making trays as Christmas gifts, and I wasn't willing to try it until I saw that one. ..although I just used a butt-joint—no miters on mine.

$10 IKEA Hack for Boardgamers - DIY Table / Lap Tray
I play a lot of solitaire board games. This now means I can sit in the same room as my wife while I play games on my lap rather than in the kitchen on the table. I think it looks pretty cool too! It also has the advantage of being able to be slid under the sofa mid game meaning I don't have to take up space on our table for days on end which makes everyone happier! More on reddit.com

How Can I Mount A Fancy Keyboard Tray To An IKEA Linnmon (Particle Board) desktop?
There are particleboard screws. They are usually fully threaded with coarse threads and have flat heads. But I've also seen Confirmat style screws used. I would agree gluing a strip of stronger/denser material would work -- but it might not adhere well due to the finish. If it's really hollow on the inside, you're not going to have a good time... But if it's the solid particleboard (looks like termite poop) then you at least have something to screw into. I think this is the hollow kind. I would sand/scrape off the finish and then glue your strip of solid wood (or plywood) to the bottom with yellow carpenter's glue, and apply pressure for 30-45 minutes. Then don't put any weight on it for 24 hours (you can put weight on the desk, just don't attach anything yet). You could try using glue (either wood glue, or non-foamy/non-expanding epoxy) on the surface directly first, since it's probably too thin for sanding... Then you can just use normal wood screws on it. It's just not going to be perfect, since you're still counting on the shell not giving way. But it's better than nothing :) More on reddit.com

DIY ottoman tray
August 23, 2020 - For the most “solid” ottoman tray, you’d drill pocket holes around the base of your 1×16 with your Kreg Jig – 2 per side – and then glue and screw your side pieces on. The downside of this method is that the screw heads might scratch the surface of your table top unless you cover the bottom with felt.

November 13, 2024 - My husband and I recently moved closer to family and I thought it would be fun to host a girl’s craft day with my in-laws! We had brunch, crafted, and just enjoyed each other’s company. Highly recommend! Everyone painted their own ceramic tiles which I then used to make each guest a personalized DIY table tray!
