I've seen a few hairdryers that boast "ion generators" or some sort of "ion technology" that always promises smoother hair and less frizz. Does this work, and if so, how?

After allowing my hair to air dry for a month I have come to the conclusion that life is too short to look like and feel like crap everyday. And after discovering this sub I have learnt that correctly blow drying can actually be less damaging than air drying (confirmation bias, perhaps? 🥴) A friend has let me borrow her Dyson supersonic which I did genuinely feel was less harsh that my old trusty parlux however my hair was still a little bit frizzy.
I got to researching and came across this Panasonic hair dryer, via labmuffin, who claims she prefers this over the Dyson. Panasonic claims it reduces split ends and damage (compared to regular hair dryers I assume) but before I spend $350 AUD on a hair dryer I was wondering what the general consensus is on hair dryers that make claims like this: “The Panasonic EH-NA98 hair dryer is boosted with patented Nanoe™ + Double Mineral* technology, a combination that is proven to reduce visible hair damage. It generates moisture particles and double mineral negative ions which are able to penetrate deep into the hair, to nourish from within and enhance the hair quality”
Too good to be true?
