So this may be stupid, but I've never had to ship a package before. I have something now that I need to mail. I don't have a box for it. If I go to Staples with the item, will they help me pack it? Also, it says the last pick-up at Staples is 4pm. Does that mean that I can't drop it off to be shipped later than 4?

At my store I make customers who don’t have boxes/mailers buy one because I don’t keep old boxes to hand out (it just takes up space) and you can package it up wherever you like (a lot go to our self serve counter) and then you’d bring it to the ups counter to ship, they ask you all the necessary info and print the label then check you out for shipping. If the store is nice they can charge you for the box and shipping all at once, but check with them that they’re okay with that and let them know ahead of time you’re doing it. Otherwise we do offer packaging services, we completely package your item for you, but it doesn’t include the price of the box. It’s generally $7, and then a few bucks for the box, then whatever you pay for shipping. So it’s really up to you. At my store I always tell people get your item in by 2 if you want it to go out same day, even if UPS picks up around 3-4 for us. Expect to sign and date a shipment receipt that we keep. Also depending on the size, even if it’s small, for ground expect prices to start at around $12. Size and distance play a huge factor in shipping. Ground is the only delivery option that delivery date isn’t guaranteed, the rest is express, with guaranteed delivery dates, but prices jump. We have a coupon right now in our app for rewards members that’s 20% off express, which when you’re paying express rates, it really helps.

I went to staples on a desperate whim to find shipping boxes for my small business and found that although limited in options, the shipping boxes they stock are an extremely great deal... if you are okay with staples branding on the box.

I bought 83 9x9x9 corrugated boxes that were advertised for $1.99 a piece. There was a posted sale (that im pretty sure is long term) of a "bulk" buy of $1 per box if 5+ were purchased at the same time. I went to check out expecting to pay a $1 a piece but when i got rang up it ended up being $45 and change. I asked the clerk to double check and she confirmed that the discount was due to an even greater bulk buy but couldnt tell me at what quantity the discount kicked in.

Like I mentioned, the box size options are limited and MSRP ranged from about $1-2.50 per.

For comparison Uline offers 9x9x9 at $0.71 for 25+ boxes + shipping.

I felt like .50 after the discount per box was too good of a deal not to share!
